I know that here we don't deal with phishing attacks, but I'm hoping that someone will be able to point me in the right direction of who to contact.

After all my attempts at spreading the word of scammers around my local area, it turns out that last Tuesday, my brother in law fell for a phishing email on his hotmail account.

I've sent in a support request through hotmails help pages, which was hard enough to locate. Does anyone have a direct link to any other contact pages which might help, or an email I can use to contact them on.

We know that the scammer has already been in touch with one of my brother in laws friends asking them to send money. Luckily his friend rang first. I've advised him to ring all those he has in his email and warn them about this, and to change his passwords on any account that links to the email.

Mods, if this is in the wrong place, or too off topic, delete if you need to.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Come tomorrow, I'm upping my baiting game. They hit my family, they've made it personal.

First thing: He needs to warn all of his friends. As quickly as possible by any means. Just let them know that they can expect to get contacted by this scammer, and to just ignore him. If he's worried about sounding stupid, remind him that his friends' money is at stake here. The first priority is to make sure the scammer doesn't succeed.

If he still has access to his account, get him to change his password and security questions immediately. If he has a secondary email address set, make sure that account is secure.

For safety's sake, if he uses that password anywhere else he should change it immediately.

@lareneg - Thank you! I texted my brother in law and he's working on contacting everyone at the moment. I never thought about the password thing, so he's off to do that as well.

I'm just trying to prod hotmail into releasing the account back into our control at the moment.

We tried changing the password, but were blocked because it had already been tried too many times before. Unfortunately, the brother in law didn't set up a secondary email address either. I tried sending an email to the account last night in the hope that I could bait this ***** of a person but the email was returned to me, dead. At least that's a good sign.

We just want the email back to transfer all the addresses over and to check what else might have been compromised, and then its being shut down again.
