time for some background fluff: its one of those cheque scams
a couple of days after handing out the usual fake details etc i get

You probably won't have too much more fun with him. After a few weeks the "cheque" will have been returned from the bank so he knows that he only has a limited time to get cash out of you. Give him some hope that you will send some money. Play the MG or WU modalities and see if you can get him to waste some more time. Clock is ticking...
