Wow, you guys are pro's. I wish I had the time to participate in this, but I have 2 jobs already, and don't need a third.

I got taken in the very first part of a scam today. First time. I gave them my address and phone number. They replied to an add I had for a vacation rental. Sounded legit, they would send the deposit... and of course now, they say they sent toooo much and want me to IMMEDIATELY send it back by Western Union. Argghhh I hate being scammed. And he is sooo smooth, not trying to get alot, just enough to "ship his equipment" to the states while he, a medical professional, participates in a week long seminar.

Besides being a bit worried peeved at the moment that they got my name/address/phone number. I would just love to see them hanging by their...

I am only slightly worried about them having my address. Now I just want to get even. I want blood of course, but hair pulling will do. Would others here like to help drive the guy insane?

Others here may disagree but in my opinion, your scammer is likely a punk with no resources to do anything nasty to you w/ your address. However, you just don't know. I would not loose any sleep over it.

The protocol is for you to cease all communication.

You'll likely have many baiters offering to toy with your scammer on this thread.

He contacted from my Craigslist post in Seattle for vacation rentals. I suppose he probably responded to a bunch of the adds on CL or something like that. This is the 1st email he sent me.

I just got a new scam letter. I rarely get them. I think the original lad has sold my email to a list, or maybe just using another persona.

This one is a standard "I am representing a dead official".

Maybe I need a new email / persona and start working with you. I have read some of the threads and how you stick together and very effectively drive these lads nuts.

Welcome to Eater somerenter. I see two potential problems here. I am not accusing anyone of baiting us but we have this ITP rule and also hate to be scammed. Your lad's email only Googles back to your Eater posting and of course there was no original script, just his/her reply. We try not to pile on an email address or phone pimp a number until we know for sure that it does not belong to an innocent third party. I believe that it was because you were almost victimized and your lad has your details that members here would like to help you by distracting the lad from you with their baiting characters. I think the modality of just dropping all contact is the best. I hope that the lad did not open this Gmail box for only your CL offering. If that is the case, he would know that you are responsible for the 419Eater pile on and probably will not do anything but that is not what we call safe baiting.

@ All- Has anyone that has piled on the lad received a response?

That is the same form letter that he sent me.
Sadly, I bite and give him my info. His next letter though is what made me realize what was up. That's when he said his sponsor had overnighted extra funds and needed a refund. I was supposed to get the extra cashiers check yesterday. I will let you know if it comes in today. Now I know if it even does come in, that it will be fake. I will have the bank verify of course.

I wouldn't take it to your bank.

You could bring yourself under scrutiny by walking into a bank with an item that you even "suspect" is fraudulent.

Best to just wipe your a$$ with them and move on.

I relized I was scammed but was "slipping into denial" and thought "just in case, I will send a short polite 'I will help if I can' reply". I did, and he hasn't emailed me since, nor I to him, thats when I found 419 Eater.

Had you actually lost any money to these guys by unknowingly trying to cash a fake check then I would encourage you to go to your bank and explain what happened.
But seeing as you never lost any money to them or presented a fake check to your bank I would just say let it go.
If you can avoid having your name associated with "fake check" at your bank then I would definitely go that route.

Law enforcement can't do much with these guys unless they are somewhere in the USA, and the scammer being in the USA is very unlikely.

The original lad did get back to me. He apologized for the check not getting here yet, he has been busy... his father was in surgery.

Yeah right, he was just giving me time to bite on the kenya airplane crash sob story. I didn't, so now he is back to try another tact.

arghh, I wish there was a faster way to get him off my tail than ignoring him. I have realized that replying to spam with a remove request only multiplies it.

If you apply it to his email address you will never have to see him again.
