MSNBC has an article on Facebook scams which is worth reading. The gist of it is that scammers are hacking into Facebook accounts, and posting that the account holder has been robbed and is stranded in London. The account owners friends are then solicited to send cash via Western Union.
Here is the article's link:

Makes you wonder sometimes - how low will these "people"--and I say that term loosely--go? Eek. Nothing to do but urge people to be aware and be careful. |

Have a read of some of the comments underneath the main story ... it looks like it woke up quite a few facebookers. |

Actually (and this is totally off topic...) what frustrates me about Facebook scams are the advertisements they have for ways to "make money being lazy." You click on the link and it takes you to a 'blog' about someone who made hundereds of thousands of dollars 'posting links to Google'
This is, of course, patently false. What they want is for you to give them your credit card information, which they then use to ravage you with charges until you can get them stopped.
I did a great deal of research about this because something seemed foul about it the moment I saw the add, and it's truly insidious because even Facebook can't control it... there are hundereds of itterations of the fake blog out there and they just flood them with adds such that they can't kick them fast enough.
I wonder if our site killers might be able to put a dent in their URL's? |

No, you can't. It's legal advertising (the google link blogs) and it does work, in a way. The catch is you HAVE to know how to make a website, how to get it in the public eye, and how to get people to click links.
The advertisements you're seeing on Facebook are there because their respective owners paid to get them placed there. You think Facebook is going to take down an ad if they're getting paid to put it there?
I don't know if the fraudulent charges exist or not, but I do know that if you know what you are doing, you can make a LOT of money off of advertising with Google. |
