MAN, am I glad that I wrote to you all about something that was happening via Craigslist..........I posted my situation here after 'stumbling' on this site (best thing that's ever happened!). In about 3 minutes I had at least 15 replies telling me I WAS BEING SCAMMED; GET OUT! RUN FAST- RUN FAR!!!!!!!!!!! and trust me; I did. Since that one post, I've received so many MORE of the same type of 'scams', and just wish I had the time to bait , scale and fillet those FOCKIN idiots who think we're so stupid..........(hey, at least I was smart enough to come to YOU!).

I've told EVERYONE I KNOW about 419 Eater (what does........der.....419 mean?) and alot of people are now aware that they have a group of HEROES who are protecting us from the fools out there who would be SO MUCH FUN TO 'double-cross' and stick their faces in their sh!t! I'm proud to know that I know YOU ALL; and I thank you SO MUCH for your hard work!

It's the section of the Nigerian penal code that relates to advance fee frauds. which is so effective, that the few scammers not already in prison, have fled the country.

Hi Rhona, glad it all worked out for you and you avoided falling prey to them. If you ever get the time to join in and bait some, please be sure not to use any that have your RL info and use a separate safe baiting account.

While you're at it, you might want to also pass on to your friends our sister site ScamWarners where they can get more information regarding scams.

Hi rhonalee!

I'm glad you were able to avoid being scammed. The best way to show your appreciation is to pay it forward. That needn't take much time, simply sharing your experience with others can help raise awareness. Baiting is a great hobby that does a lot of good, but there are lots of other ways to pitch in. For example, posting the scam emails you receive over at ScamWarners can help other potential victims find them if they do searches.

On a related note, I saved a student at my university from being scammed and now I have a nice fake check pinned to the wall of my office. I guess it pays to mention my love of scambaiting in my classes.

By telling people of your experience almost being scammed you help out the cause too. The more people are aware of these scum and their tactics, the less money they will take from the unsuspecting.

Baiting takes time and it is rewarding, knowing that people like you are saved from the loss and heartache that comes from being victimized.

Thank you for telling your story here. Now please tell your story to others including the media if you cn get an "ear"!

As others have suggested, tell *everyone* about the scammers and how you nearly were caught out, remind your friends to periodically check in with their friends, families and loved ones, any questions or just wanting to confirm anything they'll always be welcome over at scamwarners.com (many of the same people, but possibly slightly less scary/confusing to a newcomer!)

Hi Rhonalee,

As you have probably already realise, we love getting feedback about scammers not getting their paycheck and more importantly a potential vic who now knows how to avoid being scammed.

Scamwarners is a bit more professional looking and generally the members who frequesnt there are very experienced in dealing with people who have been or nearly been scammed.

Some crazy Scamwarners members have even given up baiting to spend more time there Laughing

If you're considering "baiting," my first piece of advise is to read as much as you can beforehand on this site and others. See how some have pursued scammers by email, perhaps eventually by phone, but never give out ANY personal info. Set up an email account on a free service, I use Gmail because it masks the headers.

It can be great fun and physically rewarding too... I even got a free T-shirt (made in Lagos, Nigeria) with the help of a mentor here and probably cost the real crook(s) plenty of money, in terms of pictures, banners, T-shirts and just general distraction from a real victim.

Take your time getting started and learn from other's mistakes and wisdom... Most of us are real "wiseguys" and love to waste the "mugus" time, keeping them off potential victims by just generally keeping them busy... filling out forms, or if you're really looking for an adventure, get a mentor and a premium membership.
