My cat developed a very rapid and aggressive cancer during the Holidays. It started in his ear, and spread into his neck and throat, and eventually into his lymphatic system. I took him in to be put to sleep this afternoon. 
He was the smartest cat I've ever had. He understood hundreds of english words. He even knew what we were saying when we started spelling T-U-N-A! Sometimes he'd sit on my desk and watch me bait the lads, and wonder what the hell I was laughing about. I think he was trying to learn to read the screen. When he thought it was time for me to turn off the computer and go to bed, he would sit on my mouse so I couldn't use it. 
Here's the last picture I took of him. He loved to get his picture taken, and the flash didn't bother him a bit.
RIP Hooty.

Slaphappy, I'm so sorry. Pets have a special way of reaching our hearts. Remember all of your wonderful times together and it will make you smile a little even though the sorrow. I'll give my kitties an extra hug tonight in Hooty's memory. |

I've had a couple cats die on me, so I know how you feel. As Connie said, there are lots kittens (apparently from the sea now) that are more than happy to put up with a Giants fan, so I'm sure you could have another walking piece of demonic fur running around the house. |

Man, that really sucks. I am sorry to hear the news. What a freakin' smart cat! Sat on your mouse when it was time for you to quit? That's pretty damn amazing. Cat's like that are one in a million. I have had several over the years and only one of them came close to being that smart. |

sorry for your loss SH.
It is amazing how quickly Lymphoma spreads. we went through similar a few years back with an awesome english setter that was diagnosed with that type of cancer. She was only 5 and one of the best damn hunting dogs i have ever owned.
it is amazing how they remain troopers to the end. My best memory, even in her last days, she always found the strenghth to sit near me and lay her head on my knee. she would sit and stare at me for hours, it sort of looked like she was thinking "i'll be ok old boy, it's you i worry about".
they will always be missed. |
