Strange mail in Gmail

Over the past couple of weeks I have been receiving large numbers of emails in one of my gmail accounts from the sender "me"

In almost all cases they say you may have trouble viewing this.... and then direct me to a link - I havent opened any only deleted them but am curious as to how/why I am receiving mail from "me" and any advice on how to prevent this would be welcome - I am getting about 10 a day.

I've noticed that too - emails from "me" (and with my email address) are turning up in my spam folder. IIRC someone here told me I might be getting spoofed.

I get them too, in my spam folder-- straight to delete

Edit: mine come from 189.107.30.159 Brazil (Belo Horizonte)

There's nothing for you to do, whether there is something to worry about or not. The options are:

A phisher spoofing you
A phisher sending out all his mails from the same person they're to
A virus doing either of the above.

If it's the phisher spoofing then they'll dry up eventually. Look on it as a private shuttle service getting your address to more lads. If it's a virus then the traffic might become too heavy to cope with.

Either way there's nothing you can do about it.

I had one of those as well last week.
Just to be on the safe side I changed my password and secret question (which was a bit too obvious, frankly)

strange you say that about a week or 2 ago i had trouble signing in and even changeing my pass word lotta may remember i think i asked here for help and eventualy got to change it but it was strange at the time Question

but it was before i ever went in to and opened spam folders

I get them by the ton into my spam folder ... they go straight into the bin, don't open them and never go to the link given!

Poop!.
If you have ever used your own identity or email address on the internet then you can be reasonably sure that someone will send spam or a phishing email to it.
Similarly, although my only published email address is [email protected] I receive all sorts of messages addressed to breddanbutwhatever @zongmail.com.
Shit happens.
Ignore it and move on.

I think it's just they just put "me" as the name of the user when they set up the account. You can put anything you want there.

Yeah, I know, but the mail I received did look like it came from my own address. That's what's scary.
I get those "me" mails in my spam box by the truckload, that's not exactly worrying me.

I get them all the time too, and so do my friends. Probably spoofed, using a script that fills the from: field the same as the to: address. Has nothing to do with hijacked email accounts.

I have noticed an increasingly large number of them as well. Royal pain in the backside.
