Hi and welcome to eater. Very Happy

This is a term used by software developers for the 2nd phase of testing. It's also known as the pre-release. The first phase is done in house, then it's sent out to the users for final testing....Basically you trying it out for them.
Beta software is very common but be prepared for a few bugs.

What software are you talking about?

And theres gmail which has been in beta for years but is really very reliable. Google just seem to like declaring their apps beta.
