I love this forum, it makes my day go much faster. I'm on a gov't support contract, and some days there isn't much to do if stuff isn't breaking. I like to catch up with the forum when things are slow.

So I'd like to politely ask just a few people to tone down some of the icons they are using. It's fine for us to browse and surf at work to an extent, but when people see a glimpse of half naked girls on your screen, it doesn't look good. It used to be just one or two people that used "racy" pictures, but now it's up to like 4 and it's getting harder to anticipate when I need to minimize my screen or scroll quickly. I'm not a prude and I really enjoy the posts these baiters make. If you guys don't want to change, that's fine but then I'll probably have to stop coming here during daytime hours. Crying or Very sad

If there is a simple way I can disable icons without disabling all other images on my browser, please let me know.

The rules on Eater are that people not use images that are overtly offensive (and yes I know, some of that is in the beholder). We rarely have a problem with that, and the ones you say are "NSFW" are in fact, really just scantily clad women. That may or may not be your taste, but it's a bit much to ask members to change their avatars (which are otherwise conforming to Eater's policies) so you can surf at work. Wink

As far as disabling them, I'm not aware of anyway to specifically blot them out when viewing the site, but perhaps someone knows of a way.

You could minimize your screen and scroll over. I know that's a weird thing to do, but it should work.

@capricio,
I get the meaning, but isn't that avatar part of the character you are here on the eater? Mine might upset vegetarians, too bad, it is within the rules of the game, so nothing can be done.
Your solution is getting the eater known at work and have some fellow workers join, maybe even your boss or his kid, once he knows a bit more he can see for himself that these avatars are also the limit of provocative pictures that the eater will display without warning. Shocked

Or make a written agreement/rule of what is allowed at work and negotiate the eater in there as at the moment the opinion of the workers seems to be the limit, which may vary widely. Rolling Eyes

If they were inappropriate, then believe you me the Mods wouldn't allow them. If you are offended why not PM the 'few people' in question with your concerns.

If you are surfing with your employer's approval or in your rest time then fair enough. If you are doing it when you should be working then sorry, you are stealing employers time and money.

I posted an inappropriate avatar (nothing sexual) yonks(ages) ago and was asked to change it by the Mods. Which I did.

My current avatar is a UK porn star but very tastefully done at the bus stop. Laughing

So I do hope I'm not in the top four.

avatar vs icon, okay my mistake.

I know everyone is operating well within the rules set forth by admins and moderators. All I'm doing is politely asking. If they don't want to change, they won't. I'm not trying to censor anyone or anything, just asking a favor.

Tommo, I don't like the accusation you're putting forth. You know nothing about the environment here that I work in. Again, all I did was ask. I'm not "stealing" anything from my employer or anyone else. If there's work to be done, and I'm tasked to do it, it takes priority over everything and gets done, ASAP. If you have never worked in a support environment, you might not understand the circumstances, so please don't assume anything.

Personally, I like scantily clad girls, but only in certain contexts.

Edit: Also, I don't want to call anyone out by name or point fingers. If you don't recognize a scantily clad woman then I can't help you. And some of the baiters with these icons do really great work and have posted some top notch stuff, so I certainly don't want to alienate myself from them. Again, all I did was ask, there is really no reason for anyone to get defensive.

capricio, you certainly asked politely, and you've made clear that you understand the official view as explained by JMR, thank you. Smile

Anyone who is happy to change their avatar in response can do so. Anyone who has suggestions about whether the avatars can be disabled is welcome to post them. As for the wisdom/validity/probity of the request to change avatars or surfing from work, I think that has been covered sufficiently.

I've had to block a few avatars before here, but this isn't because of any sexual innuendo or things like that, it's just due to that some of them have motion/movement that are potential triggers of horrific migraines. If you have Firefox, the Adblock Plus extension will allow you to Adblock the images that are problematic by right-clicking on the image, then selecting "Adblock Image."

I thought maybe since I ditched the slob clown for a bit in favor of my new avatar, he might have had me lumped into the infamous 4. That was until I noticed him mention that they make quality posts, and add value to this site. Whew!!

I realize this matter is resolved sort of , but I would also like to suggest choosing a browser that can simply not display images by default. I know Opera does it, can't tell you for sure about others.

Alternatively, it was already mentioned but, minimizing your browser and scrolling to the right should resolve your problem in a very effortless manner.
