I just find this sort of thing really exciting, the fact that we are discovering more and more possibilities that there is life out there in the universe other then us.

I have no doubt we are not alone.
Extraterrestrial activity is highly noted on this site for sure.
That big green eye and well I'm a bit worried about the Prof.

I have never thought other wise. the chances of life, any life weather its single cell or intellagent life form are way to high for there not to be.

The Hubble telescope pics of deep space are truly amasing . To think that there is not some form of life out there would in my opinion be very closed minded.

For those that haven't seen Google "hubble deep space" and be prepared to be humbled.

But with all those planets, it seems narrow minded to think that we are alone. There must be another planet out there with scummy green pond life on it.

I've just finished an elective on Astro Biology. It was very interesting and a lot of that news report doesn't seem spot on. Well they have all the facts, but they aren't painting the full picture if you get me.

Yes there are a lot of exo-planets and more are being found all the time, but alot of them are not in a habitable zone and if they are, then they are gas giants.

Also. A solar system like ours is very rare. Usually, the suns gravitaional force will pull the gas giants in probably destroying rock based ones.

The planet that has a 4 day year will be tidally locked to the sun, So one side will be very hot and the other very cold. It won't rotate on an axis.

I think our best chance of finding life is on Europa. I'm talking extremophilic bacteria here. Living under the ice around some sort of vent. A guy at my university is designing a submarine to go and have a look.

I dont mind them finding aliens, I just dont want them bringing any back to earth where we could be considered a delicacy.

Theres nothing worse than inviting strangers 20 light years for lunch only to discover they have terrible table manners and your lunch.

That really peeves me off, guests should know not to eat the host.

I haven't looked at the Hubble Deep Field images for a while, they always blow me away. Keep the following in mind when looking at those images.

The extra-solar planets that are easiest to spot are the so-called Pegasian worlds orbiting really close to their suns - as was the case with the first one ever spotted orbiting 51 Pegasi.

As the instruments are refined, so more Terran-type worlds might be revealed. Here's hoping...

I believe there is life out there intelligent or otherwise. I still fear we are isolated though because of the near impossibilities of traveling such distances. It is great to find other planets that can support life as we know it.

^^That is a bit of a straw man. I never said the life was intelligent or evolved in the same ways as we did. Also, the vastness of space still has to be traveled by radio waves or satellites. This can take years beyond what is really comprehensible by the human mind. We do have people looking for these things though, SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestial Intelligence) is the best example. They are constantly scanning the sky for radio waves.

The idea we could pick out a sattelite/probe is pretty much nil. We can only pick out planets when they cross a star, even then it is just a slight distortion, and it is usually Jupiter and Saturn size planets. So there are a lot of reasons still to believe there is life out on the other planets.

I suspect the first signs of life on other planets we will find is going to be microscopic life. That is just my two cents, though.
