I've heard that scambaiting can lead to you getting murdered

Is there any truth to this. I am currently scambaiting a "zimbabwean" and want to know if there is a risk of death by murder. I can imagine that it has happened, but only because the person actualyl flew to meet the 419er. So, what precautions can I take to prevent something like murder from happening?

Personally, I've never heard about anything like that happening. I have read a few accounts of victims who have been murdered.

But then again, we seem lose members from time to time. I used to think they simply lost interest, but now you've got me thinking. Shocked

The trick is to never upset a scammer and always do what they ask and always be polite. Very Happy

As long as you follow the simple guidelines you can spend your time usefully worrying about much more likely events like being hit by a chocolate meteorite.

Hiya and welcome to Eater.

If you do not do something silly like give them your real life home or work address complete with your photograph then you should be safe. As you become more experienced a baiter you will learn about baiting safe and how to inflict more damage on a scammer.

By the time you have learnt how to get a scammer wanting to rip your throat out and piss down your neck, he / she or it will not have a clue about where to start looking for you.

If you follow the guidelines and sound advice on this forum, ie read ALL the stickies, never give any personal information and bait from a safe addy you have less chance of being murdered than the United Kingdom has of winning the Eurovision Song Contest. Laughing

I've never been murdered, but I have been killed in a few car crashes along the Sagbama Expressway. I've also perished in the 2004 tsunami. Every now and then I get a letter about that, mentioning me by name. Laughing

I've just threatened to kill one of them. My cancer patient scammer was looking a bit dead ( well... ) so I had my invented uber-lad mail the scammer calling him a godless nuisance, cursing him for living, saying his brother died of cancer and he felt mocked by the scam. he has also mentioned a WITCh (sic) who has put a Bush Death curse on the scammer, and asked if he can hear the dead whispering to him yet. Bad Death approaching! ooooo indeed.

I hope he responds before the weekend or I'll have to do housework and stuff.

Death threats are prized trophies. Lots of baiter signatures include them. But to date, no lad has ever followed through and actually murdered a baiter. I occasionally taunt one of mine just to say "I'm not dead yet!" just to provoke more threats. Very Happy

Is it wrong that the phrase "death by murder" made me crack up hysterically?

So far i've only been called a fool, i'm too nice you see. Though I did suggest to that lad that since he didn't do business with fools, i wasn't going to do any business with a goat f***er... I'm hoping for a death threat any day now. I really hope its on my K7. Theres something so impotent about a death threat left as a voicemail. Smile

Anyways, play safe and you should avoid death by murder.

If every piece of information you give to a lad is false, then how could that lad find you? As long as you're baiting safe, as we say around here, you can tick off scammers at will and not worry about meeting one in that dark, spooky alley behind your house. Smile

Some were a baiter used his work fax machine, and later on some one cam into the shop asking for the Baiter's character name.

Some do have contacts in the world outside of their home country.

I personally never use anything that has a personal connection to me ... K7 phone + fax, and I do sometimes use google mail when I feel uncomfortable with a bait, though most of the time it's yahoo mail ( they can do all the IP traces they want, the town I live in is very large Wink

I don't think any baiter ever has flown somewhere to meet his lad. Of course there have been a few ocassions where baiters have actually come close to a lad to take photos, but that with as much ninja-stealthiness as possible.

A death-threat every once in a while is quite normal. I think most of us have been cursed to die in Jesus name a couple of times.

Baiter-characters on the other hand die all the time. I once had Kenny die in one bait (yes I know, I'm such a bastard...), and as the Prof mentioned he also recently killed a character. That's pretty common as it can help delaying things greatly and usually without many questions about it from the lad, as people have a tendency to die from time to time, and even lads know that.
