A relative in Australia has a new internet account and has emailed.
his addy is [email protected].
When wifey tries to reply, the email bounces with the message:
TEMP_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 8 ): 451 Mail from this IP address blocked due to DNS block list.
Before I reconfigure our SMTP servers, has anyone here got a bigpond account and can confirm the domain is correct and also try sending a test message from gmail to it.

Sounds like the IP address is on a blacklist.. It may have belonged to a spammer in the past... Do a search on the IP address in question. I'll get back to you with a link to a site that lists many blacklisted IPs

I use bigpond (for my sins - long story) which for our non-Aussie readers is the ISP for Telstra, our biggest national telephone company. I'm not tekky but I do know that users with bigpond.com addys tend to be dial-up and bigpond.net.au is for cable users. I had to change my domain name from .com to .net.au when I lurched into the 21st century and started using cable. As far as I can tell bigpond.com is slowly becoming redundant as people make the swtich. Has your rellie recently started using cable?

Hi, I use bigpond and they are at present changing their system. We got a message to say that anytime from the 7th of this month they will start changing their customer accounts and if the customer is running a third-party there maybe problems.
This is some of our message we got...
7. Finally, if you're running any third party products such as a hardware firewall, anti-virus or networking software, these may need to be reinstalled or reconfigured for the new systems.
On the new platform, your service will auto-connect and authenticate itself from your modem. You may need to 'un-install' the old Cable Client connection software.
• If you use Windows or Mac OS X, you’ll be prompted to uninstall the old software once your account is moved. Just follow the screen prompts.
• If you’re running Mac OS Classic, you’ll need to open the Cable Client software and go to the Help menu. Search for ‘uninstall’ and then follow the uninstall steps provided. Until you do this, you’ll see error messages saying that the cable client is disconnected. Don’t worry, you won’t lose your connection but you’ll need to complete the uninstall process to clear the message.
Bit to techie for me, but my son who is an IT tech is going to check ours for us. Nothing has happened to our email as yet but we are on cable so our addy is bigpond.net.au
