Nice job BW! I see you gave him just enough to keep him confident. Let's see how confident he is tomorrow
I am guessing that it is still a three hour drive to Abu Sunbul from Aswan. So, assuming that he leaves Aswan at 8am (Egypt time), he should get to Abu Sunbul by 11am. Egypt is 8 hours ahead of me. This means that I should dump the box into the river around 3am my time .
Oh well, that's the price of success. Where should we send the money first?
EDIT: Wait just a minute. I do not have to dump the money at 3:00am. That is just when he could arrive at Abu Sunbul. The fool still has a 24 miles walk |

Drive? Isnt he going to have to walk? From the looks of the pictures I have seen of Abu Sunbul, that Toyota is not making it across that sand.
I think we should send it into Sudan!!! Really close, but he has to cross a border! Then we bring it back UP the Nile.
EDIT- you got your edit in before my post! |

It may first head South and across the river, landing up on the other side. |

Across the Nile and across the Sudan border. Twice the inconveniece! How wide is the Nile? It doesn't look like a safe, quick swim! |

This is starting to sound like this:
Quote: |
The puzzle: a farmer is traveling to market with his cat, a chicken and some corn. He has to cross a river, and the only way to cross is in a small boat which can hold the farmer and just one of the three items he has with him. The problem is, he has to be very careful about what he chooses to leave behind at any time. If the cat and chicken are left alone, the cat will eat the chicken. If the chicken and the corn are left alone, the chicken will eat the corn. To solve the puzzle, you must show how the farmer can get himself and his three items across the river without losing any of them. |

Oh my!
I'm am in the presence of genius!!!
BTW, the nile crocs are bloody massive and somewhat ferocious! The good ol' US gator is a de-clawed pussy cat compared to niles! Mmm, lad for supper...
On no account must the lad hang around on the water's edge, poking around with a big stick, looking for the trunk box that is just submerged. Nope. Nosiree. On no account whatsoever...

sheila, that would be involving innocent third parties. There is no reason to punish a croc by forcing him to eat a lad. |

As a snake-keeper and worshipper of all things reptilian, I have to applaud your concern for the innocent 3rd party, but surely if the 3rd party actually benefits in some way, then it's ok to involve them?
If you think the croc might suffer indigestion from consuming a whole mugu, then perhaps we can just wish for a bit of a nibble instead? Would that be acceptable? |

Maybe we should tell him that the box looks like this.

Do you suppose a large croc could eat the trunk-box? |

As long as he tries. Just think of the frustration. Painfully hot, sandy and he cant find the box. Since he thought that he would be able to drive all that distance he probably did not come prepared with proper drinks, food, etc. |

Remember how Namibia lad thought he could see the trunkbox in the surf?
Hopefully your lad might get desperate enough to mistake this for the box....
Until it turns into this...

FYI...average distance of bank to bank on that part of the Nile is 5 miles. I seriously doubt our lad will swim that far! |
According to Google Earth:
From the inlet where the case is to the other side - 10.82 mi (17.41 km, 10,228.9 Smoots)
From the closest point on the shore near the inlet - 4.06 mi (6.54 km, 3843.83 Smoots)
From Abu Simbel - 1.92 mi (3.10 km, 1819.08 Smoots)
Nuthin like a nice cool swim after a 24 mi walk. |

When I was doing the tourist thing we left Aswan before sunrise, so we'd be finished at Abu Simbel before it got too hot. Of course that's with people who know what they're doing, know the road and expect to only spend an hour or two there. |

Just to put things into the proper perspective, here is a map showing the general area where the money is. Note the lack of roads anywhere. Also notice how easy it would be for the money to land up on the other side of the Nile, especially right across the river, directly South of Abu Sunbul.
By the way, the website is updated as well. |
