I wanted to see if anyone has experienced the latest variation of this scam. My father, who is single and 67 was contacted by someone over yahoo personals, purporting to be a research student in Nigeria and who spent several weeks chatting him up and convincing him that she wanted some sort of relationship. Keep in mind, "she" was claiming to be 30 years old, and sent some rather provocative pictures. Hell, I wouldn't date her, she's too young for me!

anyway, a few weeks into it, it shifts gears into the scam - someone is to send him a check, which he is supposed to cash and Western Union the $ to her asap. The check was actually received by him!

Luckily, my sister and I handed his ass to him on a platter over it, and he saw it for what it was before any damage had happened.

Have you seen this, and what would be the best way to bait this type of person?

Don't play with these people until you've researched safe baiting on this site, and request a mentor.
You'll want to approach them with a separate, and safe identity.
This is pretty typical nigerian stuff, with a little romance thrown in to set the hook!

^^^ What Stepan said. Remember, this scammer has your real details. No matter how much you want to get back at them, don't do it from the address you're already using.

well... my dad's anyway.... i turned him onto this site, so he is looking it over.

How do i request a mentor? i have wanted to do this since i got my first invitation to share in millions, curled up under my fax machine in the morning...
