2 weeks ago started contact with a scammer offering $20 million from dead relative in Pretoria - Used Googe to get some local details having never been to the continent, seem to have convinced them that i am now on holiday in South Africa having worked in mining industry in 80s and am new to internet, have been warned by friends but not heeding warnings and am enroute to a hotel there tommorow and Tuesday and could meet up with them to help with their 'dilemma'.
Await last contact today to confirm a meeting. Emailed them from 'an internet cafe in Johanessburg' yesterday. This could be my downfall if they check originator of email being UK rather than SA!
Any tips on stringing this out longer than my non-show at a meeting in next 2 days.

They won't check the IP; trust me!

a) Find location of a good webcam in J'burg

b) Any reason for not making a meeting you care to think of.

Arrest and deportation would be particularly useful as the next meeting would have to be in Zimbabwe / etc.

Car-jacking is a common problem in SA. With all that money you're going to take out of the bank you'd be a prime target...

Yeah - and if you have a baiting number, change it after you have been robbed, to add credibility.

If you wanna extend it a bit, just tell them you were mugged and landed in the Hospital. Make sure you google hospitals in nearby locations to make it more credible..
However, If you decide you wanna end it here and now, tell them the guy who mugged you took all your clothes...then tell them to contact you in this link...

http://www.callme.nm.ru/schild.swf?namee=GOT+MUGGED

It will surely p*ss them off...That should end it in a funny note....
(you can actually change the message. just type it over with a maximum 10 character mesage)

Happy Baitin dude!!!

Nearing the end of this perhaps.

Dear xxxx,
Disaster. What a day! Our car got stopped and we were
robbed just outside Johanessburg enroute to Pretoria,
and I have had everything taken. Spent most of day
with police but its not going to help recover anything
I think. Typing this on borrowed laptop from reception
at my hotel. Very tired.
Found a Western Union office thank God today inbetween
endless meetings with police and got some friends to
wire me cash from UK to last the rest of my trip here
(all cards stolen). I do wish I never came to South
Africa now.
Regarding my arrangement to meet you to discuss your
problem in Pretoria I am afraid that is not possible
unless you can make it here to Johanessburg tommorow -
I am flying back to UK on Wednesday morning, and now
have decided to cancel the Pretoria part of the trip.
I apologise for the inconveience and am not even sure
if i can help you with your transaction, but am
willing to discuss face to face. I do not blame you if
you think this is not worthwhile.

However, if you think i can still be of help to you, I
am staying at the xxxxxxxxxx, and could meet at about 7pm in the fantastic
restaurant. Email me or leave message at reception.
The staff have been so kind to me.

Regards,
XXXXX.

well, the guy didnt turn up but bought the story. He has gone straight for the jugular asking for a security charge of $7,400. I will spin it out as long as possible to use up as much time on this lowlife. Wont report anything further here however for moment.

Well, the lad has not gone away, and has been mostly off script for weeks now. I have been 'honest' with him and created a new fake identity as an indication of my confidence in him. However, he refuses to move on from the 'passport image' i sent him that he could not open and i refuse to move on until he does some proof of id transaction with me.

Recent text from emails to and fro from oldest to newest.

I have been thinking since your last email and the picture you
sent. I hate to be offensive, but you insult my intelligence if
you think that i believe that this photo will suffice as evidence
of your identity. I realise you may be afraid to email personal
details but I have been honest with you and revealed my true
identity with you and emailed you my passport details and you email
me a simple photograph which could be anyone.
To convince me that you are genuine and wish to proceed with the
transaction (i have the all funding you require available to
release the money) I require a scan of your passport and a photo of
you holding a card stating "XXXX is ready for business" in
your own handwriting in block letters together with the front page
of that day's Pretoria News.
Only then will I have the confidence in our transaction. Remember,
it was you that came to me for help and I need first some proof of
confidence from you. In response, as a goodwill gesture I will
wire you 1200 SA Rands (= 100 at rate of 12.6080) to your nearest
exchange office in Pretoria, please email details with above
attachments.
We can then proceed with business as originally planned.

This following email last week was not responded to:

START
This is my last email to you if you do not follow the simple
instructions in my previous email. Do not otherwise contact me
again.
To repeat the instructions:
Email a scan of your passport and a photo of
you holding a card stating "XXXX is ready for business" in
your own handwriting in block letters together with the front page
of that day's Pretoria News.
In response, as a goodwill gesture I will wire you 1200 SA Rands (=
100 at rate of 12.6080) to your nearest exchange office in
Pretoria.
I have already wasted my time preparing the funds for the main
transaction. I am a busy man. Please do not contact me until you
complete the above instructions.
END

I know i should be more patient, but he always responds within a day and its now been a week so want to force a response.

Another hint, just in case you ever end up with an intelligent scammer (If that's not an oxymoron, I don't know what is):

1) Write from a Gmail account, as it strips your IP from the outgoing message leaving nothing to trace.

2) Use a proxy server, in the country of your choice. That way, they can trace your IP, but it will lead them to the country your proxy is in.

stayinvisible.com is a great place to get started if you've no idea how to go through a proxy...some good freeware on there to.

Am using hushmail specifically for scam baiting - hope that suffices.
this lad has gone cold, perhaps his email address no longer being used or i came on too strong.
