EK was kind enough to pass on this fella's email address. Seems he committed the cardinal sin of thinking women made better victims in front of her, so I decided to help abuse... I mean, disabuse him of that notion.

I made an initial approach that really went nowhere, and wasn't interesting at all, so I ditched that and started afresh with this attempt, that went a fair little while and may have changed his mind about how women are easier to scam. I became a Canadian, since I was an American in the last bait.

I make my usual advance.

Quote:
Your email was very interesting. What do I need to do?

Hannah Morcum

He's equally cryptic when he replies.

Quote:

Dear Hannah,

I wonder if you're still interested in my proposal to you. Please if you are,i'd
like you to respond ASAP.

Terry.

I'm a bit of a smarty pants in return.

Quote:
Well, yeah. I mean, I contacted you and said I was interested didn't I? What
do you need? An engraved invitation?

Hannah

Terry wants to chat me up. Who does he think I am? EgyptKah?

Quote:
Hannah,

I need you to send me your full name and address to be used for documentation
purpose. I would also like you to have your phone number so we can talk.

Terry.

Canadians might get the joke in my "address", and I pass along a mobile that belonged to a seemingly Canada-based lad in a previous bait.

Quote:
Hannah Parquette Morcum

My mobile is 514-999-2039

Hannah

Apparently, tons of stuff happens! Progress is made! Wrong numbers are phoned!

Quote:
Hannah,

So much progress has been made. The sworn affidavit has been obtained from the
ministry of justice and i've gone ahead to submitt it to the appropriate
department along with an application for payment approval. I will have a copy
sent to your via attachment but if you have a fax number, that i will prefer.

I tryed to reach you with the number you sent to me but it was obviously a wrong
one. Please i'll like you to resend it,and this time be sure that the numbers
are correct.

Do have a pleasant day.

Terry.

As usual, everything is the lad's fault.

Remember, my phone is a CANADIAN one. Make sure you are dialing the correct
country code. My mobile is 514-999-2039.

Hannah

Well, this is different! He sends me stuff in German.

Quote:

Dear Hannah,

Attached is a photocopy of the sworn affidavit. It is drafted in German but when
translated simply means that you now have the sole right and privileges to the
funds. I just thought you should see it, that way you can appreciate what this
transaction is all about. I've invested so much money already and my family is
undergoing some form of hardship now but I'm consoled by the fact that we would
achieve our aim in the long run and then i can recuperate from my present lose.

I shall get in touch with you as soon as i get more information from my contact
at the foreign remittance department of my bank regarding payment approval. I
believe the Governing Board of the bank will be meeting anytime soon.

My regards to your family.

Terry.

It's still crap, but, hey, for a change, it's German crap!

Just to keep him interested...

Quote:
Okay, I'll wait for you to get in contact, then.

Hannah

Valiant Privatbank steps into the fray, with the following missive.

CC: DIRECTOR, INTERNATIONAL PAYMENT CENTER LONDON.

Terry sends me an email hard on their heels.

Quote:
Hannah,

Have you been contacted by the bank yet? Approval for payment has been granted
and i've been so excited. Please be sure to inform me the moment you hear from
the bank.

I can't believe it's all gone so well. I sure look forward to meeting with you
soon.

Stay Blessed.

Terry.

Jeepers, Terry, I can't believe it's gone so well, either. Just spiffing.

I email him back, copying and pasting the Valiant Privatbank email, even though I'm sure he knows alllllll about it. I also tell him I'm going to try calling shortly. Sure. When pigs fly.

Later, I reply to Valiant, asking...

Quote:
I called a couple of times and kept getting a "number not available" message. Are you having phone difficulties?

I love how he thinks giving me the numbers again will fix things. And how "Jake Bowens" and "Enrick Parfernuik" both sound like such Swiss names.

Quote:

Dear Mrs Morcum,

We regret any difficulty you may have experienced with the phone numbers you were given. The numbers once again are as follows: +447733235552 for phone line and +447733239028 for fax line. And the officer is Mr. Jake Bowens. If you seem to have any further difficulties, you may e-mail him with the following address: [email protected].

We congratulate you once again.

Regards,

Enrick Parfernuik

Oh, I think I'm going to experience further difficulties, alright. You are, too.

I do a bit of *cough* research and find that this lovely bank seems to be using a Vodaphone mobile. Now, why would they be doing that? I let the payment officer know of my difficulties, too.

Quote:
I give up. I've tried calling again for the millionth time and I keep getting some message about Vodaphone. I thought Vodaphone was the company that puts out those little pay as you go anonymous mobiles? Surely the bank's not using those.

Hannah

Terry anxiously contacts me.

Quote:

Hannah,

Please i need you to give me a situation report. What is going on at this
moment? Is the bank yet to contact you? I need an update and i need it fast.

Terry.

I give him an indifferent sort of update.

Quote:
None of their phone or fax numbers seem to work, so they gave me the email of
the payment officer, or something. I haven't heard from him yet.

Hannah

Terry seems stunned!

Quote:

Hannah,

I can't believe that till now you have failed to communicate with the bank. I
have a feeling that they might be having the same difficulty with me trying to
reach. Don't you have any other number in use? phone or fax.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Terry.

Well, Terry, as I haven't given you a fax number, and said I didn't have one, um.... no.

Quote:
That's my only number. I don't have any others.

Can't any of this be done through email instead?

Hannah

Valiant and Mr. Viking-Name still think I can't dial an international call. I can. I just choose not to.

Quote:
Dear Ms Morcum,

We suggest you try using the code 011 rather than the + sign when dialling the numbers you've been provided with. There must have been a mistake in your previous attempts.

Have a good day.

Regards,

Enrick Pafernuik

Sure. So, my imaginary character slogs down to the local imaginary business center, and tries the imaginary fax again. Dammit, it still doesn't work.

Quote:

I DO know how to send an international fax. It always gives the error "invalid area". Doesn't work no matter how I dial it.

Hannah

I hear from the, errr... "Payment Officer", or whatever he was.

Quote:
Dear Ms Morcum,

Due to the difficulty you seem to be encountering in the area of phone and fax communication, we have been instructed by the ValiantPrivat Bank AG Bern, Switzerland to deal with you via e-mail. If you have no disapproval to this instruction, we shall hereby request that you send to us ASAP your banking details where you want the funds transfered to.We further more request that you pay for the cost of transfer/Administrative charges of the funds to your account. We would have been able to deduct this funds from your total sum but your funds came in bonds which cannot be tampered with not until it gets to your account..

Therefore you are requested to pay USD$7,500.00 (Seven Thousand Five Hundred United States Dollars). Find below our receiving agent account for sending the required fees.

Kindly e-mail proof of payment to enable us transfer your funds into your nominated account.

Best regards,

Mr. Jake Bowens.

ACCOUNT DETAILS

ACCOUNT NAME: HENSHAW & CO.

NAME OF BANK: LLOYDSTSB.

SORT CODE: -30-94-87

ACCOUNT NO: 00882358

BRANCH ADDRESS: 324-326 REGEANT ST. LONDON. W1B 3BL

SWIFT CODE: LOYDGB21457

I do a little speck of research and decide to pass it on to Rian. There seems to be a typo in the SWIFT code, (I think the lad mistook an "L" for a 1, a common enough mistake.) but the bank account appears to be real enough. I also love the twisted logic that this bank account holds bonds, that can't be tampered with. Wha?

Then, Jakey-poo sends me another email. This time asking for $5000, instead of $7500. That's the only difference. Aha! A slapping opportunity! I pounce.

First, I answer the initial letter, and plead ignorance on how to make a payment with that information. What's a bank transfer? Wait, you didn't even say "bank transfer". I'm confused...

Quote:
And how am I supposed to make this payment? I'm afraid I don't uderstand how you want to met pay you with the information you provided. Could you explain in more detail please?

Hannah

In the meantime, Jake wants my details.

Quote:
Dear Mrs Morcum,

You are expected to provide us with your personal banking coordinates where you wish to receive your funds. And it should comprise of the following or more:

1. Account title 2. Bank Name 3. Bank Address 4. Account Number 5. Routing Number e.t.c.

On the other hand, our receiving agents account is where you will be paying the charges into. As soon as we receive the proof of payment, we shall immediately transfer the sum of $7.5 million due to you. We advice that you waste no time in responding to our request to avoid unneccessary delay in the transfer of your funds.

Please accept our kind regards.

Your sincerely,

Mr. Jake Bowens

Hold on a cotton-pickin' minute! You got some 'splaining to do!

I reply to the second request for payment, and leap all over the fact that I was told to pay two different amounts.

Quote:
What the hell is going on? In the last message, you claimed it was $7500 I owed! I demand an explanation immediately.

Hannah

See Jake scramble.

Quote:
Dear Mrs Morcum,

We indeed appologize for the variation in the amount you have been requested to pay as charges. The sum of $2,500 that was later deducted from our initial charge was ment to cover the administrative fee. We were later to receive an order from the directors office that it should be dropped and which was why you have now been asked to pay $5,000 being the cost of transfer of your funds only. You are to disregard our earlier instructions for the payment of $7,500.

We regret any inconvinience this may have caused you.

Your sincerely,

Mr Jake Bowens

Terry contacts me again.

Quote:

Hannah,

What is the recent position concerning the transfer of funds? Please i need to
know how far you've gone. Send me an update right away.

Thanks.

That's a very personal question! How far I've gone, indeed!

I pester the Overseas Payment folks again for an explanation of how to pay. Maybe they don't know, either...

Quote:
Like I told you in the other mail, I'm not sure how you expect me to show you proof of payment, when I don't even understand how you want me to pay you, with the information you provided. How do I pay?

Hannah

And again...

Quote:
You still didn't answer my question about how I'm supposed to send the payment to you using the information you provided.

Hannah

Finally Jakey-bean comes through.

Quote:
Dear Ms Morcum,

You must understand that we also owe an obligation to many of our other clients who wish to lay claim to their funds as well. So please bear with us if your mail to us is not replied immediately.

To answer your question, you can make the payment by going to your bank (one in which you own an account) and request that you wish to have the amount you are required to pay wired into our receiving agents account. I believe you have the details already. You will be asked to fill a form by your bankers, and in that form, you will need to fill in those details. They will offer you the needed assistance you may require.

Alternatively you can have it sent through Western Union money transfer to save you the trouble. You can have it sent in the accountants name. This way it will save time and the transfer can be effected at once. I shall send you more info if you should decide on that.

We await your response.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Jake Bowens.

I also update Terry.

Quote:
The overseas payment thing or whatever first told me I owed $7500. Then they
said $5000. I had to ask them which I owed. They gave me payment details, but
didn't tell me how to make the payment, so I had to get them to explain that.
They told me to do a bank transfer, but the bank here says their Swift code is
wrong, so I need them to correct that before I can do a bank transfer.

Frankly, I'm beginning to think they're awfully incompetent.

Hannah

I inform Jake he has a typo.

Quote:
I went to the bank today, but the teller took one look at your Swift code and said it was invalid. Too many numbers, not enough letters. Said it had to be a typo. I don't trust Western Union. Anyone can go in and pick it up if they know the number or the name. The teller warned me that a bank transfer is a lot more secure than Western Union.

Hannah

I get the same incorrect SWIFT code confirmed, and another bank account. Yay!

Quote:
Dear Ms Morcum,

Your decision to make payment through the bank is most highly recommended. Like you have already been told, it is a whole lot secure.

Regarding our receiving agent account details you were earlier provided with, I hereby present it once again for your immediate reconfirmation.

ACCOUNT NAME: HENSHAW & CO.

I have verified the account details to be correct but would make available to you hereunder another account detail should you still happen to face any difficulty with the former.

You are hereby adviced to cross check with the former account details or alternatively make your payment via the latter.

Do have a nice day.

Regards,

Mr. Jake Bowens.

Terry makes some excuses for Valiant. And brags on them a bit. *snort*

Quote:

Hannah,

I'm glad to receive such good news after a long while. It definitely means that
the funds will get to your account soon. I truelly commend your effort and can't
wait to meet with you soon.

I want to believe that the change in the first fees was as a result of my
intervention. I spoke to a friend who works at the international payment center
and he promised to be of help. It's nice to know that he he did assist in some
way. Your mention of the word imcompetence surprises me because they were just
awarded the best clearing bank last year and they haven't failed in their duty
to the valiantprivat Bank. Peharp they are under a lot of pressure since we
placed a lot of customers on the payment list in their care. That not
withstanding i believe that as soon as the payment is made, the transfer will
take place. I'll still make some calls to be sure the transfer is conducted
ASAP.

I thank you so much for your full support and will show my esteem gratitude when
all of this has been concluded.

Stay blessed.

Terry.

He must be awfully excited. His usually decent typing has gone to pot.

I decide to put the fear of the banking industry into Jake. I insist his information is still all bad. And suggest the teller may about to be tipping me off to the scam.

Quote:
What is going on? I talked to the lady at the bank, and she says that first one is still not a valid SWIFT code. And the second? That SWIFT code doesn't belong to any Woolwich Bank. It belongs to another bank. She wants to know what our business is together, and she asked I come back tomorrow and talk to her. She wants to check out some things first, then have a talk with me.

Hannah

I also give Terry a piece of my mind.

Quote:
> Hannah,
>

By what organization? Because, so far, their performance isn't exactly
knocking my socks off. They didn't bother telling me they were revising the
amount, they just resent the same message as the first time with the amount
being the only thing that was different. Couldn't they be bothered to actually
change the email message? And I still haven't heard from them on the Swift
code issue. What kind of clearing bank can't even get a Swift code right? The
teller at the bank was stunned when I told them it was a payment center that
had given me that code. The teller started asking all kinds of questions when
I said that and said they should know the Swift codes in their sleep. And they
certainly shouldn't be suggesting I use Western Union instead.

She said to come back in when they sent the new code and make sure I talked to
her again. It was really strange. She seemed really interested in where this
bank was supposed to be located.

Hannah

Jake tries to use the "short time period" pressure tactic.

Quote:
Dear Mrs Morcum,

We have waited to hear from you regarding the payment of the cost of transfer fee required for the transfer of your funds into your nominated account.

This is to inform you that you have barely 6 working days to provide us with proof of payment or the funds shall be returned to the ValiantPrivat Bank AG, offwhich you shall be required to reapply for its release.

We wish you the very best.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Jake Bowens

But Hannah isn't into having the wool pulled over her eyes.

Quote:
Like I've already told you enormous twats, your SWIFT codes are wrong, and I can't pay you if they're wrong. Not to mention, the bank teller says you are either the most completely incompetent financial institution she has ever come across, or you are frauds. I'm leaning toward frauds, myself. Because no one can be this fucking stupid.

Hannah

Surprisingly, none of them have contacted me since!

Maybe they've still not worked out what's wrong with that SWIFT code...
