I'll change that to a definitely not counterfeit PONY. A shame that Eater won't satisfy my gambling habit; what is still legal tender, if I may ask? No celebration is complete without accumulating some hard-to-repay debts.

As a minor hijack, as of this post we are at 69993. The underground PONY gambling ring is still strong with a thriving membership of one, and at the current rate of forum membership Eater will reach 70000 by midnight GMT on Friday. Some GOATs may be added to the illicit menagerie depending on how many people (besides myself) are willing to make losing bets.

Here’s another wager I’m willing to make: this thread will not reach the second page by Friday at midnight GMT. I have faith in our collective dignity, although that may be a mistake.

^ I'm pretty sure membership has been over 100,000 but there have been a few culls over the years to get rid of signups that never post, or various members that left for one reason or another, vowing never to return.

It would be funny if member #70,000 gets a huge Eater Welcome but has no idea why. Laughing

And now we're up to 70003. I'm not exactly sure what's causing the sudden spike in memberships, but all I know is that I'm not responsible.

That wouldn't surprise me. There's a scambaiting subreddit that isn't extremely active, but still has a decent amount of activity, and while they focus more on the tech support scams we're occasionally mentioned. I did some sleuthing just now and found a few recent mentions. I know a few people here were making a concerted effort at some point to advertise Eater there more often, and at least one current/former Eater member is a moderator there (based on a quick scan), but I'm not sure if it ever amounted to much; most of the Eater content that's posted on Reddit is the old Shiver and Bombardier stuff. A recruiting drive there at some point wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea, but I doubt it's necessary. Couldn't hurt though, but anything involving that probably ought to be left to the moderators/admins unless they give an official call to arms.

Back to the main topic(s) of the thread, we're up to 70005 now, probably riding the last of the Reddit wave, and I am eagerly watching the PONY for any changes. All I need is a few more animals and I'll have a zoo.

There's usually an upswing in people joining the site if a bait goes viral and the curious drop in to see what its all about. Might be time to try and pull off a spectacular.

We're at 70010 as of this post, so the momentum is still going strong. On another note, I now have a GOAT and a LIZARD in my signature. I think someone's taking my comment about the zoo a bit too literally, although I think they're better with real animals anyway.

^^^I went to a zoo with imaginary animals, once. Long story short, the majority of my clothes may have been imaginary, too. It's why I'm not allowed to drink Mezcal any longer.
