Jennifer replied to his "send the money now" email with a simple "Sent. What are next steps?".

I'm sure I can spend a few days playing the "what do you mean by payment slip" game. Bank transfers are all done online nowdays. Who uses paper "slips" anymore? Lads love this game. Good for wasting at least 3 days.

Since this weekend is Memorial Day (bank holiday on Monday), I plan to string this one pig out until Tuesday before I tell him that the transfer was REJECTED. He misspelled the mule's first name (I believe it is Darryl), so that's a reason for the transfer failing. And it's all his fault, of course.

I get the feeling he doesn't trust you. I count 8 times he says something that shows he doubts that the money will be sent, and 6 times the word 'money' is used. He seems preoccupied. Rolling Eyes

I will also tell him the transfer failed. If we both say it, it will ring true.

Oh, I'm sure he doesn't trust me. But, it's just a miscommunication. My character is 23 and has not set foot in an actual bank branch since she opened the account many years ago. She lives in the digital world. If it can't be done on a mobile device, then it's not worth doing! She just needs to slowly come to understand that the lad is talking about the archaic substance known as "paper".

I had 3 more messages from him this morning. Seems he figured out on his own that I might have done the transfer online, and he sent me a sample "payment slip" - a print out of an email confirmation message from someone else's bank. Of course, Bank of America doesn't send email confirmations, since email isn't secure. They use their internal messaging system within the online banking app. I sent him a bogus confirmation number and told him the transaction shows as PENDING. It can take a couple of days to go through, and with the holiday weekend coming up, it will probably be Tuesday. Of course, I will tell him that the transaction failed because the name did not match the account number (since I believe the mule's name is Darryl, not Darry.)

@Aries, Johnson DID send a short reply to his first email calling him a liar and scammer. It was a mistake on my part but I was able to use it to solidify my character's status as victim looking for reparation.

Now the hook is set, he is reeling Johnson in slowly.

Jennifer is getting annoyed, and confirmation screens are only displayed once and cannot be screen captured after the fact.

He hasn't emailed me since last week, so I will poke him tomorrow. I will tell him the transaction failed due to "INVALID ACCOUNT INFORMATION". That's nice and generic, and I can waste a couple more days asking him questions.

This lad is dumber than a box of rocks. And that may be insulting rocks. He wants me to use my ATM card to withdraw money from Wells Fargo and then go to Wells Fargo and deposit the money into the account He gave me for "Darry". He does not seem to understand that 1) you cannot withdraw $11,200 from an ATM machine, 2) that an ATM card entitles you to withdraw any amount of money from any bank whether or you have an account there, and 3) that you can deposit cash into someone else's bank account.

FYI... all of the major banks in the US at least implemented an anti-money laundering policy that does not allow you to deposit money into someone else's account. The lads have not been happy when I have told them that. But I sent them the link to 10 different articles that discuss it. So if you have a lad who tells you to deposit cash in to someone else's account, you can't do it!

A Lad I was arguing with over a payment slip told me to do pretty much the same thing. The lack of a Wells Fargo in Alice Springs (and probably Australia) put paid to that idea.

He's trying the old Western Union routine on me, since I told him the "Darry" account didn't work. Since he's doing a crap job of explaining it, I can probably get another week out of this before I either get another piggy, chop him, and/or introduce him to a certain security system. But first, I will argue with him about being able to use my ATM card and sending money multiple times.
