Just caught the final part of the Proposal and due to my upbringing now a few decades old, I was watching the credits at the end and caught towards the end what I thought was "The Commonwealth of Massachusetts" can anyone enlighten me on this. |

It's another word for "republic". Some states use "Commonwealth" in their full official names. |

Pennsylvania, Virginia and Kentucky also refer to themselves as commonwealths. Puerto Rico is officially a commonwealth. |
