Hi guys, I'm new to 419eater.com though I've been scambaiting for quite a while now. I got into it due to James Veitch's TED talks which I found hilarious. When I got this email last December, from Miss Kelechi Ngama, I decided to spring into action:

As you can immediately tell, I was too in your face and weird straight away and she never replied. Nevertheless it was my first step and now I have a series of scambaits in my belt, each better than the last.

Translation from Malay to English (I changed the spacing of a few words):

My guess is either your lad thought the note was coming from another lad, or they figured you were a "joker".

It's a funny note, but see if you can get your lad back by sending a follow up saying, "I am interested, but you need to send more details."

S/he immediately realised I was a joker. It didn't help that I sent a few more emails explaining how I joined the military because I was a stalker who was attacked by a transvestite! I attempted to revive the scambait line using a different email address but there was no response. Sad.

Welcome to Eater!

You may have gotten unlucky and picked up a lad who understood what you were saying in Malay. We do see a lot of scams originate from Malaysia. There is a large West African student population in Malaysia, and plenty of local scammers there too, so it would not be uncommon to find a scammer who can speak or at least understand Malay.

It's best to lead into things slowly with a new lad. If you start out by straight baiting, and introduce the weird elements more slowly, you're more likely to get the lad to go along with you.

One other tip: it's best if your character's name is not the same as your Eater user name. Some lads do Google, and promising baits have gotten rumbled that way in the past.
