Hi Gang,

Completely new to the forum, and also to the crazy world of scamming. Could use some feedback, as a quick perusal of posts here leave me uncertain as to whether or not this would be worth doing anything about. I hate to imagine future victims though.

I was recently looking to buy a small used RV via Craigslist, and seem instead to have stumbled onto a scammer. I could give the detailed specifics if you wish, but basically an unrealistically low asking price, and email responses that are non-responsive to my questions about where and when I could inspect the vehicle, and instead repeatedly refer me to a "consignmnent" service who will hold my money (approx $10,000) in escrow for 10 days until I am satisfied.

A Google search confirms the photos have been copied and pasted from a recent ebay sale, although the "seller" insists he has owned the vehicle since new over 10 years ago.

In short, an obvious scam.

I am still in email contact via a secondary non-identifying gmail account, but other than finding this forum know nothing about scambaiting, and am not confident in pursuing this myself.

Is this the sort of thing anyone here would have any interest in pursuing, or should I just quietly drop the correspondence and forget it?

TIA for your feedback.

Welcome to Eater. We have a sister site, https://www.scamwarners.com/ that, well, helps to warn against scammers and educate the public on signs of scams. You have noticed some of them in your interactions. ScamWarners would be a great place to post the information of the scammer and their "scripts," leaving out any information that could be traced to you.

Feel free to read up here and see what and how we do things. If you're comfortable then, feel free to begin scambaiting, or grab a mentor to lend some guidance.
