Maggistail and i started baiting this dying widow lad in August. He seemed quite compliant and the widow's "nurse" sent a nice, reassuring letter because I was not sure if i could trust her.

I then asked 'Nurse Nicole' if she might know somebody who would want to work on a project for a friend, who is a professor at a university. Strangely enough, she knew of just the person, and gave me the contact of "her friend" - Mr Alex.

Tragedy struck when, on the way back from the WU office, my character suddenly died (after making the payment Very Happy

)

So from here on my new character took over. The following characters are involved in this bait:

-Professor Paul Kelsey from the U. of Culture in Geneva (Doraemon)
-Mrs Roxie F., the university secretary/accounting/human resources/bureaucratic annoyance (maggiestail)
-Miss Mollie, student from Prof Kelsey's class, daughter of an English lord, lad's love interest (maggiestail)
-Dean André, the university dean (Doraemon)
-Jason Myers, agent for West Africa from the shipping company (Doraemon)
-Mr. Randolph, shipping company driver and thief (Doraemon)

This bait is already several hundreds emails long and has included a large number of photos ...... and it's still ongoing as we write this!

For ease of reading, not all emails will be included, and we've broken down the bait so far into chapters, which we will publish over the coming days. Comments are welcome!

If you're sitting comfortably, here is how it all began, with our first introduction email from Alex, who had been nominated by Nurse Nicole as suitably gullible, err, I mean looking for work :

So, the assignment from the university is that they were looking for freelance workers in Africa to report on their culinary habits and traditions. Alex was happy to answer the Professor's questions:

Further emails were sent to get him motivated, and Mrs Roxie, the university's administrator, sent the application form with the first request for photo trophies. It really couldn't have been easier:

In the meantime, we were also maintaining our communication with the "nurse", as "she" had been promised a mediation fee for finding Alex. Maggiestail did a good job of annoying her intensely with forms and bureaucratic red tape until she eventually refused to take things any further Smile

This communication with the nurse was important to get our lad more and more invested: to make him believe that we are different people, and also to show him that we believed HE was two different people.

Very slowly, we started introducing him to the project, not to mention sowing the seeds for a possible safari, by telling him that he may need a car and some equipment.

The first plan was to (hopefully) have him taste things he did not like (such as pork). Then we decided to make it a little more educational by sending him to the market so we could see for ourselves what they have there. Alex was to report back to us with photos, and we would then choose what we wanted him to cook/taste.

Nest photo is called Boulvaka Sec; the following is called Chenilles, next is called Bouroumbou leave, following is called Raw groundnut it also used in cooking, Seille Biteau leave, next is fish called Carpe fume, next is Gombo sac, and the next to it is the fresh Gombo.

Sir, like you have already known, all those are cooking materials in our place and with all those you can cook all types of our food.

But note, that before you use the Raw Groundnut in cooking any food, you have to remove the skin from it and ground it first; it will make the fund not light and give good aroma, and also that Gombo, the Fresh and the dry are the same thing, it makes the fund to draw and when eating it goes with something you can swallow called toe.

THE STORY SO FAR - AND CHAPTER 2.......

The story so far is that we were introduced to "Alex", who was interested in doing some work for our (fictitious) university. We were keen for him to be our roving reporter
in Africa, sending back pictures and video files for our culture classes.

Alex was proving to be quite willing and able, and as you saw before he sent us back a whole host of pictures from the market. Not without risking life and limb, though - according to Alex, taking
pictures is against the law over there!

We kept praising him, and telling him how much money he was going to get - oh yeah, and there was the matter of his car, too. We would send him a car - what kind did he want?

On we go.....

board will be very satisfied and we already know that you will be worth the big salary. The only small problem is that some of the very interesting photos are blurred a
bit and we can not using it properly. Please try to make the photos very clear in the future.

To determine your first assignment, i need you to know and understand about what the people here want to know about the local foods from your place. You need to
understand that the common things like peanut or dry fish will not draw that much interest from our readers. What we need for the research is the most interesting and
uncommon foods for us Europeans. This is why i need to know, do they sell any so called bushmeat at this market? We are very interested to hear about that
and to see any photos of it. And the most interesting from you photos so far is les chenilles. Can you explain more about those? Is it possible to eat it raw (without cooking)?
And is it possible to cooking the bushmeat together with those? We would appreciate if you can go to the market again for the bushmeat research and for making another
clear photos of the chenilles. You can give a tip to the seller there to let him allow you to take the proper photos. Just let him make a receipt for the tip and send it to us later
for the refund. It will be very valuable for us to receive all those information and the clear photos. I hope that you can make it before this weekend.

raw without cooking it, but some dry it before using it to cook.

The price though... as B8er said, that is high. Should be more like 50,000 CFA. Is there a decimal point or something that is not view-able on the small image or is he really trying to tell you it was a $800 USD ticket?

Other than the price, it looks rather legit.

I finally had a chance to watch the video - really love the cooking part of this bait and the trophies you've got from him so far. Thanks for keeping us updated and looking forward to his next adventures.

And am I alone in being curious and interested in the caterpillar dish? I've had a couple of dishes based on dried caterpillars like this one but never prepared from fresh.

^^ They do look like the same sort of caterpillars, or worms, firehouse5. Maybe an acquired taste, but, on the other hand, they may be absolutely delicious.
