How can you check if a profile is real?
How can you found someone online?

We don't recommend sites.

Anyone who claims to be a soldier or a middle aged International businessman is a scammer.

If you can't physically meet them then consider them scammers.

Exercise common sense and be very, very suspicious.

Never send money to someone you haven't met in person, no matter how good the reason they give you. if they ask, they're a scammer.
Don't accept and re-send money either, it is probably a money laundering setup.
Don't send naked selfies or you'll end up getting blackmailed.
Don't give away personal information or you'll get your identity stolen.

A general google for "how to stay safe on dating websites" will turn up this and more.

No offence intended, I'm sure. But we are a suspicious lot, doing what we do on a regular basis. We do sometimes see spammers trying to evade capture by posting a question then answering it with their product or service. As b8er indicated, it doesn't work, we shovel up the poop and ban them in minutes. I had to laugh earlier, one genius posted his own carding website in our "fake banks" forum which was very helpful of him... Anyway, as you're clearly not a spammer you're very welcome to stay and learn more. Ask as many questions as you like Wink

Hi Angelbreka,

I can't recommend a site but pay sites are SLIGHTLY more safe. If you limit your search to your immediate area, say 50 KM, you drop the chance of a scammer still more. Avoid anyone contacting you from outside the area. If you are interested and reasonably sure, insist on a face to face meet for coffee, not skype.

You can check out sister site SW, you can see the usual stories from scammers. Engineers on contracts in Africa, aboard ship etc. their initial email with usually have grammatical and spelling errors.

Even if you are cautious, anyone who professes love after a couple emails is a scammer. Period.

Unlike a number of members I know a number of success stories and even a few marriages that came from on-line dating.Each involved people in a strictly delineated local area.

Also if someone says "hey I am on a trip/stationed/etc. in X Country, but I need you receive this package then resend to X" is a scam and using you as a mule.

I have baited as a female character on Facebook and the scammer profess their love in under 30 minutes... obvious scam and want money for "better phone, visa, momma is sick, etc..)

Thank you all for your kind answers. It's a good way to start using dating sites when you have at least some of the basic informations that you should rely on.
