Up on some celebrity blogs now...A member of the 1970/80's music group Sister Sledge was the subject of this scam. The scammed her friends, including apparent Howard Stern co-host Robin Quivers. (Who got her money back before it was collected, thankfully - this according to a commenter)

Apparently they collected some of her friends email addresses or hacked into her email and sent an email saying "Help! I am in the Philippines and I was mugged. I am stranded here and need money wired to me." (You get the gist)

It may not be new to anyone here, but mass publicity like TMZ posting something about it can alert a lot of people who would otherwise be taken.

This type of scam has been around for quite awhile. I know it is something my mom would fall for, which reminds me, I should remind her about stuff like this!
