Just tell them you got a voice mail about a tax bill, and could not make out the name of the caller. Have fun!!!!

What exactly does that mean? Sorry I'm new here.

I thought this one is a no-brainer.

You can call the number and verify it's a scam within 10 seconds. The guy answers and claims to be from the IRS, Tax Investigation Division (which doesn't exist).

You could also have verified (before you obscured the number) by Googling and seeing the number of spam reports on 1800notes, etc.

If you get a notice from the IRS by telephone or email
it is a scam!
The Internal Revenue Service never makes initial contact by phone or email. The IRS will make initial contact by postal mail.

That's the way it works in the US. Other countries may vary.
