So I got myself what I'm 99% sure is a scammer. Problem is, it's on my main email address. I was thinking of playing dumb to mess with them, but now I'm worried that they have my main email.
Can I post the message here? ( I thought I read in the forum rules that you can't post messages unless it's in the Surplus forum?)
I REALLY want to waste this person's time... and I have some ideas, but would like some tips before I proceed. |

Welcome aboard, SmackaMole!
Good call on not messing with a scammer from your main email addy. That's not baiting safely and that's not what we do here.
If you want to have fun with a scammer, set up a fake email addy and bait the scammer from there. Then, if you're new to the game, read some of the stickies around here, and read a few of the published baits.
If you're serious about giving baiting a try, it wouldn't hurt you to get a mentor and start learning the ins and outs from him or her.

Welcome to Eater, SmackAMole! Be sure to read all the Stickies, so you can learn to bait safely. Baiting is a wonderful recreational sport when done safely.
So... all you need to do is create a new email address that is not remotely connected to your real life information. Most of us use GMAIL because it hides your IP address, so the scammer can't trace your location. Create a baiting character - a big part of baiting is creative writing - and have fun! Just reply to your scammer's email from this new (safe) email address. He sent his scamming format to hundreds or even thousands of email addresses, so he won't know that your baiting address was not on his list. Nor will he care. He only cares about having a fresh "victim" on the hook. So, bait away!!! (But do be sure to read all the stickies on the forum first. Start in Eater University.)
Oh, and sign up for a mentor, so you can learn from the evil geniuses that make Eater so great. |

Welcome here.
I'd start reading here, here and here.
As for your email - once you have an account set up that isn't related to anything associated with you, just send a simple email to the lad expressing interest in whatever the 'deal' is, and you'll be off and running. |

Welcome to Eater, SmackAMole.
Is the 1% uncertainty about it being a scam down to your inexperience or is there something else that is making you not 100% sure it's a scam?
If you want to post the body of the mail (minus any email addresses and names that might lead the scammer here) then we can tell you for sure. |
