Hi all,

Here's a snippet from a craigslist pet scam that I responded to.

I have been baiting only on occasion, but after a few years of appreciating 419eater's existence I figured I would start posting my own baits.

I have some older stuff I saved including a dialogue with an individual who wanted to have his shippers pick up a (10,000lb) combine from Iowa to deliver to him, although he worked on an oil rig and was away from his family. Poor guy Neutral

1. Pet scam, craiglist listings - local posting, bengal cats due to family emergency marked down and shipped via airline for $350 each. (Kicker? Our family cat died, I was looking for a local cat/kitten, and the listing was so innocuous that I actually inquired upon it!). As soon as I saw his response it was obvious it was a scam so I decided to proceed with a purchase of 2 kittens! Smile

I also responded in kind to Albert's repetitive misspellings of my name. I'm used to it, but man it's a little annoying so I get to play with it here.

Welcome, officially, to Eater. Are you baiting safely? It appears as your initial communication to the scammer may have been made using real life details. If this is the case, drop the lad. He can be re-baited from a fresh, risky free email addy.

Thank you, and you are absolutely correct. I left it at the tail because of this, and with any serious work I will absolutely be using gmail and working much more safely.

This particular guy just hit a bit of a nerve because of our cat and i just went ahead.

Would it be beneficial to send these guys a note and suggest that they pursue?

I thought since solonaranch was in the business they might be aware of some of the bengal/exotic pet scams but maybe they haven't seen this site yet.

Oh my gosh I just answered a craigslist ad the other day, Bengal kittens $350... Shipped.
After I responded I got the exact message that Erick posted.
I wrote back where I live, kids, pets, and that I wanted the kitten.
He didn't respond until about a half hour ago.
In the meantime, the craigslist ad is gone, and I've discovered it's a scam thanks to this site.
My fear is this... I responded to him using gmail, but I also sent him a text to the number he had listed- is that dangerous?? He texted me back telling me to use money gram. Never answered any of my questions.. Just use money gram.
Any ideas what I should do?? I'm tempted to mess with him like Erick did but he has my phone number.
