So, I contacted a couple of people from the spare 419 letters pages and good as gold got 2 replies (stock) telling me I am due to receive $1.5m and $690K respectively. The $690k looks much more promising at present - limited compared to some of the gems I've read about, but interesting for me, so briefly:
After the initial to and fros, we have come to the nitty gritty where I need to send $3000 to set up a bank account in order for my "ready and waiting cheque" to be cashed. When asked to respond if I wanted to proceed with account details (got me excited as I hope it will be a bank account as opposed to WU so I might get a piggie), I just enquired as to why it cost $3000 to set up a bank account as I can do this for free. I was told not to ask "unofficial questions" and that this cost was to set up an "unconversional" bank account. I responded by asking for a list of "unofficial and offical" questions so I knew what I was allowed to ask and gave him assurances I would do my best to pay on receipt of the transfer account. A small outlay for such a windfall IMO.
I just know this is going to be WU but I do so hope it is a bank account on my very first bait!
I must admit it is all so exciting - I've set up my fake Gmail account on my phone so I get emails when I'm out and about and everytime it buzzes in my pocket I am as excited as if a new girlfriend is texting, followed by the disappointment as it's my wife telling me we've run out of milk! Is this lad-love?!
Don't know how you lot contain yourselves when your lad emails to tell you they can't find the SH and they're stranded in the middle of nowhere! |

Welcome to Eater, and it's good to see that you are safely baiting.
Have you signed up for a mentor yet?
So far as using Western Union or getting a bank account, I always tell lads that I refuse to send that amount of money ($3,000) through something so unsecure, and insist on a bank account into which to make the transfer.
The lad may hem and haw at first, but they usually come around and find an account to use.
A lot of people only reply to a lad once a day, and that's what I originally did. But I've found a few times a day works pretty well. You just don't want to be emailing back and forth every hour, or the bait will go by too quickly. |

Usually they want a payment sent by Western Union or MoneyGram or service like it. Rarely you will get a Lad that will send you a bank account as their preferred method of payment. Rare but it does happen.
Like Dwatina says. If you hold out to send the money by Bank transfer they will usually cough one up. If they drop you so what, there are thousands of other Lads that are available.
Grab a Mentor in the Risky free Mentorship program. Pull up a few Knuckleheads and have some fun! |

Thankyou all - firstly I have signed up for the mentor program, have been assigned Dr. Mike but I'm unsure whether he is a real doctor. Told him about my rash and he asked me to send him money via WU?!
I have read the 24 hour rule and I intend to adhere to this once the bait gets really rolling and my lad is waiting for cash. In these early stages I'm a little eager I must confess.
Bruin has offered an interesting direction I may well try and take this all going well. I can already sense a bit of frustration in my lad when I don't fully comply.
Feel free to chime in any time with daft ideas..... |

This sounds like the lad has set up a fake bank website which needs to be killed, as well as an account to send the money to. |

^^That's true, sometimes. Sometimes the lad just wants the three thousand and claims he will set up an account for you.
@Chickendipper: If the lad gives you a site to set up an account, then it's probably a fake, like vonpaso xlura said. |

Welcome!
Sounds as if you're off to a great start! Sitting Safari watch is a rush, I won't deny that!
If your lad give you a bank site to visit to open an account, it may be a fake bank and you can ask for help it checking it out. If that's the case, you can post it in Fake Banks and our site killers will nuke it. I always enjoy getting shirty with the lad and telling him the site's gone, what's going on?
Happy baiting! |

Don't think its a fake bank site as such, just bank account details. I've just received this:
BANK NAME; RBOS
ADDRESS: 21 THAMES STR LONDON, KT 11-QE UK.
SWIFT CODE: RBOSXxx
A/C NO: CUNXxx
IBAN NO:GB14RXxxxxxx00556355
A/C NAME: VR CUXxxxxGHAM
I've xxx out some info and PMd Capone the mod. Is that what I'm meant to do? Anything else I need to do on this side of things?
I've unfortunately missed today's Request to send in the money by noon..... With the flurry of emails to get to this point it's time to slow things down a bit. I won't email him back till tomorrow with a few little problems. Lad thinks pay day is close |

Bacon sandwiches are so tasty.
Now stall for a day or two then tell the Lad that you tried to make the payment but it wouldn't go through. Then ask if there's a different account you can send the money to. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.....
And just an FYI, Don't mention that the account has been flagged for investigation as that can be considered helping the scammers in some countries. (Yes, I used to use that one but have corrected the modality) |

Please post the whole SWIFT code and sort code (UK equivalent of routing number); block out the account number and corresponding part of the IBAN. I'm pretty sure the account number should consist entirely of digits, but I'm American and have never been in the UK. You can run the IBAN through an IBAN checker. SWIFT codes are not secret and just identify the bank.
If he gave you a SWIFT code without a sort code, you could claim that your bank requires both. IIRR the sort code is actually part of the IBAN though. |

No sort code. I shall be asking for more details tomorrow before my fake bank manager contacts the lad informing him how rich and stupid I am and asking if they can work together to scam me for much more. |

It would seem my pig is a little premature. The account info I submitted to mods is not quite right. There's no account number or IBA.
I have since received a couple of pushy emails from my lad and the "bank" asking why I've not paid the money in and how disappointed my lad was with this
This gave me a great opportunity to ask for new or correct account info and tell my lad what idiots the bank are and question their competence for sending incorrect account details. Kind of a round about slap as the lad is likely to be behind both email addresses.
Look forward to new account info, shan't be able to get to the bank today but that's not my fault. If lads want pay days, they had better be sharper than this |

Another bank account - hopefully this one works. My lad recons the IBAN no. serves as the account number. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

An IBAN in the UK is a combination of the Country, Bank identifier, Sort code and account number - if he's given you an account name and IBAN then that should be enough to report it - it may not be enough for your character to do a transfer though, that depends on the country that your character is in. |

Character is in UK. Not that I've done anything but my own legit Uk to UK transfers, but they have all been a 6 digit sort code and 8 digit account number...... |

My Santander online banking insists on an account number and sort code for a UK transfer.
I'm not sure what would happen if you went into a branch with just a IBAn - they're a fixed format, so if the system can't handle it, the staff would be able to work out the sort code and account number - but they might not be willing to. |

Today I received further pushy email asking why money had not been paid and why no bank slip had been scanned and emailed.
Bruin offered me a twist which I have just tried and am eagerly awaiting reply from. I set up a new email from someone working in the bank and wrote directly to my lad:
Dear xxxx
May I introduce myself - I am the deputy manager of xxxx's Citi Bank branch and he has visited both today and yesterday attempting to make a payment into 2 different accounts. On both occasions he has given us IBAN's which is slightly unusual as opposed to our 6 digit sort codes and 8 digit account numbers. The account yesterday showed an error on our system but today the payment showed able to proceed. I did however put a halt on the payment as Mr xxxxx showed me some of the information you had sent him regarding this payment and money due to him.
I was instantly aware of the nature of your communications, namely fraud. I have seen this type of fraud on numerous occasions whereby large sums of money are promised to victims but in order for them to receive it they must pay an initial set up fee. After the set up fee is paid, that is the last communication.
xxxxx has been banking with Citi Bank for many years. He has recently come into a large amount of money after the death of his mother. He lives a simple life and is obviously easily taken in by promises of further large sums of money. Only last year he was defrauded out of £14,500 from a scheme offering investment in gold.
I would like to propose a business deal with you. xxxx has the ability to yield a very large sum of money to us both. He is clearly taken in by the information you have given him and your attempt of extracting just £3000 is in my opinion aiming very low. I can assure you there are funds of over £100,000 available if the right information is fed to him. I would like to work with you for a 50% stake in the operation as I can provide you with safe and easy transactions when required.
All I ask from you is confidentiality (hence not using company email), and you to contact xxxx and provide him with a further opportunity to increase his windfall by further investing in this operation. I feel we could both benefit immensely from this.
Yours in anticipation
xxxxx |

You should also hint that the bank manager will tell the victim about the scam if the lad doesn't agree. Most lad will try as long as possible to claim that they are innocent.
I see a chop in the lads near future.
And just to clear things up. I told Chickendipper that i can help him with his rash. But i need money if the problem is located to the genital area. |

Keep in mind, Chickendipper, that your bank employee knows of other potential victims - all rich and gullible, and could be convinced to share their contact info with the mugu.... |

I know you probably haven't recieved any updates yet, but be sure to keep it posted. I am (also) very new to this, and I learn a lot from seeing other people's initial moves.
I think the idea with the manager is great. |

You lot got it totally right! My lad has emailed me all communications from my evil bank manager. He also emailed the evil bank manager direct to tell him he does not succumb to blackmail and that he is totally legitimate and honest!
So, what I have done is to email the lad telling him how confused I am about it all and that I'm going to the bank to sort this out in the morning. I think then my bank will convince me of their innocence and suggest I should be careful.
Then nasty bank manager will email lad and warn him again that if he doesn't play ball and cut a deal then his account will be closed and he will convince me to forget the whole thing and invest in the bank managers scam.
I have had many suggestions from you all and I shall incorporate them all into the scams. More mugus, more victims info, a dinner with me and evil bank manager where bank manager deletes lads email and continues communication with a very similar one, more senior managers on the scam etc etc.
Your ideas are great, make it so easy to move this forward. Keep em coming, I want this lad to get mad. His money is creeping away from him! |
