Well, I checked my lines this morning and low and behold I have one on the line. She (which is likely a he) is asking me for all my contact details... blah, blah, blah in order to proceed in releasing the funds of 5 million.

They seem to be getting better, or at least from what I've seen before. The death notice was supposedly in the New York Times and the memorial website looks very well done.

Does anyone know when these guys ask for all your details including phone numbers and such, do they ever try calling the number? I have all the information like that from the Fake Name Generator tool listed here in the forum, but I would think that once they called it, they'd know it was fake.

The death notice and memorial website will be real and that is where the scammer will hve got the person's name from - they are just using it to make the scam look legitimate.

As for calling phones, yes they do - I regularly get calls on the mobile I give and have occasionally had complaints that the made up number I gave doesn't connect. If your character is in the US then look at getting a K7 voicemail number - they can then leave a message and you can just say you were busy when they called.

Thanks for confirming that for me. Since this is my first fish on the line, how much of the requested information should I give out to start with?

I was thinking that if I did give my character's number (which the Fake Name Generator created), that I'd tell them that due to my current financial hardship, that the phone company threatened to cut off either my phone or my internet service and that I chose to keep my internet and lost the use of the phone.

I did call the phone number that the Fake Name Generator created, just to make sure that it wasn't a live number. I'd of hated to not have checked only to give out a working number that the scammers could call and potentially rope in a real victim.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my character resides in Ontario, Canada, so I don't know if the K7 thing would work. But I could look into it. Is there a link here somewhere for that?

Ok, I think that K7 may work. I just signed up for a number and it seems to be working fine.

At least now I have a backup plan if they balk at my other idea.

Straight baiting is probably one of the hardest exercises. Sometimes it takes a lot of strength and character in order not to fall for the fun and the hilarity of a bait. Just go your own way, as long as you give them scammers a difficult time Cool
