I expect Klasvaak to come by any time and speak his mind about the Netherlands, but i am sorry, they won't make it as they are kneed deep in their generation change. As it is soon time for kick off between Brazil and Croatia I have to decide who to root for, in the tournament, not that particular match. As Sweden isn't paying it cant be them. Next in line would be any other Nordic country...ehh..well, that is not gonna happen either.

I conducted an online test and according to that i should root for Australia, but I feel that the Socceroos isn't my thing, sorry any Aussies out there. So who should it be, and remember i need to dress my avatar up for the occasion, so the jersey is important too. Well not England, that is for sure. Always champions before the tournament (except this time strangely enough) and always disappointing during. Also I really don't like white and red combination. But let us go to the realistic choices

Belgium perhaps, and I love an underdog. Also close to Sweden and I like the jerseys. Tons of talent and it will be interesting to see how far they can go.
Spain have nice kits and I love their football. But how interesting is it really to cheer for an elderly team that are reigning champions?
Colombia is another outsider, and I love teams that play attack minded attractive football. And the jersey is yellow too, a clear plus in my book.
France is also an option, but historically there has been a lot of shit going on with that team. But with players like Pogba and Ribery might be reason enough.
Argentina, Messi is reason enough, and with talent like Higuain, Aguero there are every chance of seeing some goals. One of the coolest kits too.
Zee Germans, well, even though Reus had to throw in the towel there are tons of attack minded midfielders, World class is an understatement. Downsides though are that they won Sweden's qualification group and their jerseys are a bit colourless.

So, I am leaning towards the Belgians but I might reconsider. Any good arguments out there?[url][/url]

Its always tricky who to support as Im English, In Begium with a Dutch wife.

I like your way of thinking. If choosing between the 4 west African team I'd probably pick Cameroon. Nigeria and Ghana have too little quality in my opinion.

Being English,of corse I will be rooting for England.
But if they drew against Honduras (with ten men) their chances of beating Italy are about the same as me $crewing Kim Kardasian over the counter of my local western union.

You forgot to add an explanation for the geographically challenged members of the forum that this is a World cup where more than one country takes part, unlike say the "World Series of Baseball" or JC's favourite the "World Pig Wrestling Championships".

Actually, I've just finished watching a very intriguing programme (Yes, America - that's the correct spelling Very Happy

) about a group of young girls in social care who were taken to Brazil to represent England in an international football tournament for street kids. Very thought-provoking.

I suppose I'll fit in a couple of England's matches, but must confess, I'm not getting too excited about it

EDIT ^^^ 'real football' - oh yes that's the one that's mainly about 50 college students taking it in fifteen minute turns to go crashing about in full body armour and throwing the ball, isn't it?

Mmmmmm, yes somewhat interesting and amusing if one has an idle moment or two to fill Laughing

Discussing any kind of sport where the participants wears padding and mainly use their hands is strictly prohibited in this thread. It doesn't matter what you call it.

Scentless Apprentice, thanks for the tip. I did consider Bosnia a d they do have some good players as you say. Dzeko as mentioned and also Pjanic. Colors match up (they even have some yellow in their flag) and many of their playes have been kids in the hell that was Bosnia during the 90's. They have come a long way since then. Yes, there are indeed many reasons to cheer some extra for them. Their team isn't as talented as the Belgian though. But I will consider it.

So Dr. MIke, Who do you think will win the the greatest prize in football?

I think Brazil will be very hard to beat, they just don't lose when playing at home.
Germany and Spain also have very good chances, but I think the winners will be Argentina.
They have the attacking flair of Messi, Aguero, Higuain and Di Maria and will score goals, along with a solid defence.
I would love to see a Brazil and Argentina final, one of the biggest rivalries in world football.

My work has a random-draw pool and I got fallen-upon-hard-times Mexico. So I will be supporting them with all my energy.

Although, Mrs fire and I will be in various pubs in Scotland when the second and third England matches occur, which creates some ethical dilemmas. On one hand it is easy to join in with the Anyone But England supporters. On the other, what is more fun than winding up a Scotsman or ten, especially late in the evening in an alcohol-rich environment?

By birth and upbringing I should really be supporting U!!S!!A!! but no way that is going to happen.
