Hi all! First time here but I have had a scammer on the hook for the last two days, It started in the usual way, I got an email to my gmail account offering me a FREE PS3 with all the accessories the box an 10 games! (although only 6 games were in the pictures..)

This guy tells me he is in the next town to me, about a 15minute drive away, excellent! I can pick up the new console and be playing Uncharted before breakfast! but alas, he couldn't give me his address because the day before he had actually moved to Liverpool (about 300 miles away) but would be more than happy to ship the console to me via courier if i sent him the £35 fee for same day delivery, sounds reasonable so i "agree"

He then asked me for the following details (verbatim)

Full names
Address
postal code
Cell number (noone in the UK calls it a Cell)
Fax number
nearest airport

Before i gave him anymore information I asked him to give me the name of the courier he wishes to use so that I can contact them myself and arrange payment, the next email he sent was a picture of his "family" I responded that it ws a very nice picture but did not answer my query RE who us the courier?

He then sent a futher email telling me he was going to be using Global Shippex (I work in a distribution warehouse and have never heard of them) So i looked them up (www.globalshippex.com) a hastily put together website with no address (just a contact form) and a mobile phone number.. they also "specialise" in shipping animals, not games consoles.

At this point I dug further and Googled the email address, it pointed me to a couple of YouTube comments where it said things like "CHEAP MEDICAL MARIJUANA CHEAPS MEDS ACT NOW EMAIL [email protected]" (the email address i had been recieving this mail from.

I also found another website offering to sell African Grey parrots at rock bottom prices due to excess stock! and once again, the same gmail address was listed.

At this point it was obvious Global Shippex was the front for his fake parrot business, and he was branching out into invisible games consoles.

So undeterred I contacted him again and asked how I should pay, he replied quickly telling me to go to my latest Newsagent and purchase a UKASH card for the sum of £35 and send him the voucher number with my above details.

So I did.. kind of.. I used a made up UKASH number and shameless used the name Mr Eric Shun after seeing it on one of the "best of" posts here, but i then listed my home address and telephone number as that of the Serious Fraud Office in London.

He has apparently not caught on and as we speak he is happily on his way to "register the console with my details with the shipping company"

I am currently waiting for his response Very Happy

Welecom to Eater El_Contador.

I hope you are baiting safely with an email address not linked to your real life details - if not, the best thing to do would be to drop this scammer and set up an anonymous bating account.

We also do not involve ITPs in our baits and that includes the police.

The domain globalshippex.com is definitely fake and will be reported to its hosts.

Thanks B8er Smile

Nope, no real life details used only throwaway addresses, sadly this one seems to have gone cold on me since my first post, no response in the last few days, but i daresay it won't be long before a new one pops up so i can start all over again Smile

Hi El_contador,

What B8er said. Other than that, a nice start. Welcome to Eater. Once you get set up with a gmail of your choice, pick out something from Surplus Letters and maybe apply for a mentor. The stickies have great info about inventive ways to waste a lad's time and drive them nuts.

Since you picked up on your own that this was a fake shipping site (nice catch!) you may want to check out that part of the forum and read the stickies. The site killers are a friendly bunch and that might be something you may be interested in learning.

Hi All,

I'm very new to this but I'd love to stop some of these scammers!

I recently saw an ad on freecycle for a plasma TV and surround sound, seemed legit Very Happy so I replied asking if the guy still had it,
surprise surprise, yes he did but he'd just moved to Liverpool, and would happily let me collect, I advised that my "sister" lives in Bootle (thanks google maps) and could collect on my behalf, I was then told that he would not let me collect because he had waited in all day before and no one had shown up...
but he would courier the stuff to me for GBP 40.00?
in further emails it dropped to 35.

a few emails later and he tells me to get a Ukash voucher and log on to the wonderful globalshippex site to track my delivery strangely there was a phone number on the site which was exactly the same mobile number he gave me to call him direct... I googled the number and his email address which both led to another site for intelligent parrots!

Unfortunately, I used my real email address, not thinking it through but gave him no further details,

what should I do next, can anything be done to stop this guy?

here is a part transcript...

Hi Marvi, Welcome to the forum. I am sorry you fell for this scam, these thieves thrive on social media sites. One thing you can do is go over to our sister site ScamWarners and post your scammer's details-this will help victims using search engines to check out the information.

That's what we are all about-but your scammer has your personal information Please drop contact with him. If you open up a shiny new gmail account with none of your real life details, there are a lot of options down in Surplus. Read the Stickies, maybe sign up for a mentor but please bait safe while you're having fun.
