Hi everyone.
Whenever I write these lads I use terrible spelling and grammar. I figure, why give them good english form so they can learn from it and use it when they are scamming others.

Here's an example of a newly written email...

Welcome to the board! I like what you're doing there if you can stand to continue it. It's your choice how your characters act and write.

It is a very good approach as it helps to Dumb down the scammers and it will become second nature before you know it. These days I have to concentrate when writing 'Normal' correspondence anymore 'Just sos I don'ts sounds too much likes a hick or nothing if you is getting me eh?'

You're right, it does take some effort. I was doing it for the same reason at first but I soon gave up. It's possible that lad laziness is contagious. Very Happy

Another way of "de-educating" lads is reinforcing the mistakes they already make. Big X has been demonstrating this in his "Lad claims I got his assistant arrested" bait thread.

Hey everyone, thanks for the input and for the welcome.

I've been lurking for a couple of years and have backed off baiting these fools but just started up again.

I also write that way to appear dumb and clueless. I just replied to a lad because he's getting tired of my shenanigans (sent an unreadable file) and so I've just insulted him but still put that carrot of payment out there. Another one that I have on the hook keeps asking for my phone number but whenever he asks for it, I give him other info. So he's also getting pissed off at me plus my spelling and grammar is so bad he doesn't understand what I'm saying.

Thanks for the translator link. I'll be using that in the future. Thanks to all for the special tools, website links and anything else to help us.

I don't do that in English, but when baiting a lad in French or Spanish I throw in words of the other language transformed into this language, such as "escrán" or "pantaille" (which mean the same). Once I typed some intentionally mangled words. Annеtte had just come home from an unexpected trip round the world and was exhausted. So I typed a few paragraphs with my eyes closed and my head down:

My keyboarding skills suck, but I skip the spell checker when I email lads. I think you have taken it a step further, which is great. Welcome to the forums and nice work!

Even when playing educated and articulate characters, its often good to throw in lots of nonsense words for de-education purposes.

I have varied writing styles according to my persona of choice.

Captain Mal is prone to military slang and the use of terms derived from Firefly and (sometimes) Battlestar Galactica, and anecdotes of his military service in gorram Iraq.

Cammy is more chatty, but tends to be irreverent and more than a little bit fucking profane, tosses in references to and oaths on the Norse mythos, by Freyja's tears, and often emphasises her vanity.

Brad is usually weirdly dyslexic - or rather, Brad is usauly wiredly lysdexic, deosnt use god punctautoin or duoble leters, and is given to runon setnences and radnom mispruntz; strangely, Lads seem to understand him.

Hi FlashDark, Thanks for finally posting! Bad writing is one of my favourite baiting techniques -- the scammers are very happy to go after people and no language barrier is too great if they think they can get someone to pay out. My preferred approach is a non native English speaker and I try to make my english worse and worse as it goes.

But using a character who is a little bit "simple", like you posted above, is great as it provides a natural excuse for getting things wrong. I think it's very much worth the effort and I really like to read baits where characters have their own individual voices. Like Yastreb's characters mentioned above! Or my all time favourite, the sadly departed W. played with great skill by dr stephen williams.
