Hey, sup, I'm new here.
So a few days ago I got a friend request on Facebook from a friend that I was already Facebook friends with. Today that "friend" messaged me and I figured out that it was a scam and a fake account pretty quickly. They said (in horrible English) that they had won a ton of cash and a Range Rover from the "facebook freedom award promotion lottery agency company" and that I needed to contact government agent David Buckley Oliver Smith on Facebook ASAP, because I was on the list of winners as well.
I had all kinds of fun with this guy. First I asked how they brought the Range Rover to her from the factory, and was told it was on a truck. I said that this was fascinating, since you live on a tropical island (actually true). Did they bring it in a truck that drives on water? I got a hesitation, then a yes. Then a reminder to contact Agent David, so I said I contacted Agent Bond, James Bond. The scammer had no clue. It went on like this for a bit; I copied and pasted the entire conversation into a Word doc and it's 3.5 pages at 10 pt. font, including thumbnail pics. I can remove the names and post it somewhere if you want; it's pretty good. I went on to say I contacted Agent Smith, who wore sunglasses and wanted access codes to the Zion mainframe. I think that they actually thought I contacted their "agent" at that point.
When it was over I blocked the scammer (since I had been chatting with my real account and all), reported the account, reported the agent Smith account, and warned my friend. But given how bad their reporting system was, I'm not sure Facebook is going to do anything about it. The account that they were trying to direct me to was facebook.com/davidbuckley11g. What can we do from here? |
