Hi Bashemgood, I personally have not approached the lads in chat. I have read that they are partial to yahoo.

Hello, yes some people like it, it is often a good approach when dealing with romance scammers as they prefer this communication, it's usually just a personal preference - if you want, you can, if you don't - you don't have to.

Personally I don't like it as it allows the lad to advance in their script rather fast, isntead of slow emails. Wink

Mortal is correct on them advancing much faster. They also use it to apply pressure where they can. Skype is another place they like to chat but it takes some time before you begin getting random contact requests from them.

EDIT: Welcome to the forum! Gmail also has a chat option that you do not need to download. I refuse to load any yahoo so they will sometimes switch to a gmail address to try chatting with me.

Welcome bashemgud!

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are asking if there are any chat rooms where you can log in and find scammers hanging out to chat with?

We really haven't seen too much of that.

However, scammers will approach targets 1 on 1 and try to lure them into chat. Yastreb here does a lot of these and you can see several of his threads on the topic.

Over at scamwarners, we have seen lots of vics and almost-vics who were hit up to chat on skype.

My fake FB accounts have both lad and non-lad friends (those silly women accept all friend requests, no questions asked.) If I leave my computer logged in and my status showing as online, I will often come back to a scammer friend trying to hit me up on FB chat.

But, if you are looking to chat now, and don't have an established account that is being approached regularly or just don't have any available pets, the easiest way to pick up an instant new friend or two is through a dating site. It's very simple!

1) Go to a site like Badoo or Zoosk. The scammers are literally swimming around like sharks in the water, waiting for some new prey to fall in! They all want to be the first to approach you, before you have learned about these scammers and what to look for, because they know you are more likely to pay then.

2) Open a new account (fake details of course). Make your character between 50 and 70 years old. A female character will probably bring the lads sooner, but male will ultimately work as well. Make your location somewhere in US or Europe. If you want to reduce the odds of a real hit, you can add a unique trait or two, like "must love my collection of vintage pop cans." If you want the best, fastest hits, you have to include a photo. You want to avoid ITP's so it should be a public figure or it must be edited. I personally like to find sleazy scam weightloss product ads, and take a "before" photo from them. It's a good idea to edit if necessary so they won't find them via google search (not that most lads will check). Another good option is pictures of someone like actress Kathy Bates in movies where she is made up to look as unattractive or scary as possible.

3) Launch your new account, and stay logged in. Just open another tab and go about your business, and peek at your dating site account every once in a while. The scammers will start messaging you through the dating site almost immediately!

4) Pick a couple of likely starters, and respond nicely to their approach. Chances are one or more of them will try to lure you immediately to email and/or chat.

5) If for some reason they are not biting (which is unlikely) you can pick a couple of obvious scam profiles (for example "female" profiles using pics of porn chicks, and male profiles showing high-level US military officers) and send a nice little "love your pic" kind of message.

6) I often create new profiles for the purpose of researching scammers posted at scamwarners. Those new profiles will typically get up to half a dozen scammer approaches in the first hour, and usually 10-20 approaches within the first day! Often my first hit is within 5 minutes of the profile going live and showing as online.

There are many scammers in chat rooms, sometimes they are even the complete chat room.
Two kinds, the ones that paid for entrance, they are the dangerous ones as they invested, appear to be legit and have been doing it for a long time. They find a victim and ask it to follow to yahoo-chat or for a phone number to separate the victim from the group, next step get them(victim) to leave the chat rooms (they pretend to be very jealous) to keep you away from others so you won't find out that they have several "bride's/grooms" lined up.
Second ones for free sites they study the population after joining then message all possible victims to find them on yahoo chat so they can talk to you.
Next time they make a new user account (same IP that's how we dumped those from the site real quick) They might sent out 500 invites to get a few responses, but they are still a nuisance for the site.
All chat websites have them, some up to 60% of the population.
In group 1 are real established scammers who sometimes can get picked out as a moderator as they frequent the site so much, from there they give their friends an option to become moderator too. Been there done that Sad Though to get rid of as they read all conversations between moderators

Scammers will reveal themselves to other member scammers with the message "hi" only to show they're from the same "breed" Wink

Bill makes a good point. I was thinking you were asking about scammer-only chat rooms, where you could just enter a room full of scammers.

Scammers hang out everywhere there are possible victims, including chat rooms, gaming websites, and special interest sites.

One comment about the use of "hi" as a greeting though--simply sending a "hi" is not exclusive to scammers. Non-scammers (especially Americans) will do the same, so it should not be assumed that someone who approaches you with a simple "hi" is a scammer.

"hi" as subject and nothing else I noticed on the Looker date sites and when I checked the IP it was always in the known group. We used NEXT as test database and when they knew about that IP number we could be sure it was a special member Wink
