I've just been 'on-air' with my local radio five minute slot talking about about 070 numbers --- something they always seem to miss.

It caught my attention when they were talking about a scam that I hadn't heard of before.

** Someone had listed a car on a 'pay to list' site (including a contact phone number)

** A a day later someone phones the seller to see if it still for sale --- it's been sold.

** An hour or two later someone pretending to be from the listing site phones the seller to check how things are going (customer satisfaction I guess).

** Seller says that everything is just great and the car has been sold.

** 'Listing Site' asks how long did he pay for the listing to run for --- two weeks -- and how much did the car go for ? ---- £3,000

Because the Seller is such a satisfied customer, the 'Listing Site' would like to refund a weeks worth of listing fees and takes his card details.

You can guess the rest --- (hint) it didn't involve a refund showing on the Seller's Bank statement but it did involve the number 3,000.

sly buggers.

Here's a good one to listen to which explains the anatomy of a phone scam transitioning into a recovery scam.
