Ethics Question-waiting for the victim to volunteer

In a bunch of my vlad baits, there is no direct request for money. Hints, the "I have no money for a translator"' I lost my job etc. they are waiting for the victim to volunteer assistance. Is this just a good technique for manipulation or does this take the scam outside baiting territory?

My own personal opinion is it's a scam no matter how the the vlad, lad or whatever phrases it.

^^^I agree with you but we shall see what others think. I believe it is deception of a very cunning sort. It is not just Vlads using it either. If you ignore it long enough they will come out with it directly most of the time.

I agree with the above. They are wanting your character to offer to pay the money. They'll hope it hooks you deeper into their trap. PPL are more willing to pay if it's their idea rather than the Lads.

An Ethics Question on April 1st? Seems like as good a day as any....

It took (what seemed like) forever for my present Vlad to ask for money but I can't see that I was doing any real harm. We simply traded correspondence until the inevitable came up.

If ever in doubt Drop them or ask for advice on the Forum. So I agree with all of the above.

I have an orphan like that. The original email asked for assistance, but didn't outright as for money or mention the usual bank account. I've been emailing "her" back and forth for over a week, she sticks mostly to her scripted story about being in refugee camp hell and I react with horror to her troubles and promise I'm praying for her and her eventual escape to safer regions. I'm just waiting for the rich, dead father with a bank account to come up or a request for money to get her to Europe or the U.S.

It actually plays in our favor. our objective is to waste their time. this beat around the bush stuff lets the bait go on longer than it would otherwise. It is a blessing in disguise!

No problem suggesting interesting ways your vlad can source some money to ease their woes. Could lead to some good <a href="viewtopic.php?p=1200274#1200274">SIG LINE</a> material. Wink

Unlike your run-of-the-mill Lad, Vlads can be very patient.

They can sometimes work on the victim for a year before asking for payment.

Keep baiting. Eventually the request for cash will come.
