So I get a message to the effect that this poor FB user is penniless, sick and depending on his brothers and sisters to find him a place to sleep, could I please consider sending him some charity. Jesus bless me, blah, blah, blah. I followed his profile link to see if I could learn anything. His profile is pretty much open to the public, so I checked it out. He has some nice pictures up there. Very interesting indeed.
He wouldn't have found me because I keep myself as private as possible on FB, but he's a friend of a friend who games. I've warned the friend that this guy is using his friend's list to try to scam people.
Honestly? Facebook? Approaching people on Facebook works for scammers?
I saved the profile link if anyone wants it for any reason. I blocked the guy, myself, because it kind of creeped me out, not that I would have baited someone who messaged my FB account. |

As Rattlesnake said, we don't bait beggars.
But as far as trying to pick up vics on facebook goes, it is a very common occurrence. Over at scamwarners we see romance victims (or near victims) every day who met their scammers on facebook--and my baiting profiles have numerous real scammers as friends--because they approached my characters with friend requests. |

Beggar or scammer, he's not hurting any from the looks of things. Hopefully people will notice that before being fooled into sending him funds. |

Facebook can be a great baiting tool. It adds realism to a character and lets you spread a bait across multiple baiters (and scammers )Run in parallel to an email and phone bait, it brings a richness and aroma to a bait that lesser social media systems cannot match, rich meaty chunks ... cont. p94 |
