Armslist scam- newbie needing advice

So...I fell for a stupid scam & I'm sick about the money I lost. I decided to buy a firearm for my husband (Valentines Day). I used the Armslist website to find what I wanted and contacted the owner. He wanted payment by a money order (first red flat). I said no, however I contacted my bank and spoke with a rep asking her about Quick Pay. She assured me that if the transaction was a scam, I could file a claim and get reimbursed. I felt like I had covered all my bases if it was a scam. Finally, I was able to get the scammers phone number, a name, and two email addresses. (715-513-7578, [email protected], Brenda Bulloch, [email protected]) to process the bank transaction. We kept in touch via email and text messaging until his account was funded yesterday. All communication stopped (second red flag). I contacted Chase and found out that I was misinformed and they won't be able to reverse the charges since I initiated it. The local sheriffs office said they can do a report but won't be able to pursue it. (Third red flag) the scammer stole photos from gunbroker website.

My question to all of you readers-is there a way to bait this scammer since I have some of his info and is anyone wanting to help? Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Generally, it is not considered a good idea to bait someone yourself if you are emotionally involved and have lost money to him.

Would you please post the scam e-mails that he sent you so that we can review them?

For me, it looks like "Research in Motion" a UK company - - but they are the folks behind "blackberry", so all that tells us is that he sent the e-mails to you from a blackberry!

Do you have a link to the original advertisement? or any subsequent adverts by the same person?

The more information you give us the more we can research.

Brenda Bulloch is the name the seller has given, but we'd need more details to narrow down to a specific person using that name and be able to trace any evidence of them being a scammer.

Hi. I'm really glad that I found this post. I have been communicating with a guy named James who posted a Noveske rifle for sale on armslist. He had posted the ad as being from Los Angeles and when I showed interest he immediately removed the post. We communicated via email and then via text. I then decided to call him to ask a few more questions about the rifle. I spoke with him briefly and He wouldn't tell me specifics and was vague about the entire rifle set-up. He even got kinda pissy with me when I insisted. He texted, "you have nothing to worry about. I am an older person. Got no time for shady deals."

Reg flags were going off left and right and I suspected that this maybe a scam. This all happened today, Saturday (2/9/13). I kept the conversation going because i want to make sure this guy doesnt do this to anyone else. He/she thinks that I will be paying via paypal and said that he'd ship the rifle on Monday. That being said, if anyone needs more info to catch this guy, I think I will be able to connect with him for another couple days.

Been reading this thread and since you seem to have a cellphone number, why don't you do a reverse lookup on it. Once you have the perps info you should be able to either get the police involved or failing that a small claims case. Have you notified the listing service?
