He was telling the story of his girlfriend who died of cancer last Fall (the same day his grandmother died). But, she never existed. There are some who believe he was in on it, and some who believe he was purely "baited" (or "catfished").

It's all over the news here in Hawaii, where he's from. Those of us who know the scamming world are really just waiting for the other shoe to drop...when we find out just how much money he got soaked for.

I suspect that he got ripped off and then made some bad decisions about how to respond, since it was already such a big story in the press and he was about to find out about the Heisman Trophy (and a zillion other awards) as well as playing in the National Championship.

Sometimes 21-year-olds are still kids!

It's a crazy story. New tidbits keep emerging every day, to the point where it's almost impossible to distinguish fact from fiction. Personally I think the player was in on it the whole time. Too many holes in his story for it to be otherwise.

Maybe he and Lance Armstrong can do a reality show together. Laughing

personaly am believing the guy because have actualy had a similar experience.

am severely autistic and used to be a active member of the online autistic community- until a person used all experiences of mine as their own to appear severely autistic,they changed from someone who claimed they worked in a hospital,communicating and playing with sick kids,able to drive,had been to mainstream american college -to an adult who was a non verbal severe autistic.

they did what was told is called 'grooming of a vulnerable adult' where they use what copied to relate to someone,to become friends', stupidly did not have any awareness of this,and they carried on,PMing asking what medications was on for anything autism related,what adaptions and equipment was using etc.
they woud go on forums for parents posing with the autism experiences of mine- usualy word for word to get pity,stupidly didnt recognise this either because had believed they were just the same as self.

he pretended to be friends with that account whilst using sockpuppets to bully, slander and threaten with, he effectively destroyed mental health whilst pretending to be a friend in another account,was stalked across many different related forums and he threatened and abused with sockpuppets whilst using them to back himself up.

it was friends that had confirmed what he was doing but damage had been done.
had found out on another site through old sockpuppets of his that he had borderline personality disorder,anti social personality disorder [pyschopathy] and narcisistic personality disorder,he has a heavy history with the police for violence,and as ridiculous as it sounds to someone who can think straight; he had such toxic jealousy towards the fact am in autism/learning disability adult residential services and recieving a lot of support & services.
he also pretends to have many other disabilities from cancer to visual impairment, to dyslexia,and woud pretend to be anything from a young teenager to someone in their fifties,female and male, he uses dyslexia when he has had alcohol and someone makes a remark about his spelling,he and many others on the internet are ruining peoples ability to trust others through blind faith.

have never understood how he manages it but every forum have gone on; regardless of the topic he ends up on there,he still bullies under sockpuppets but uses a form called cryptic bullying where he uses only things personal to both of us/what we have talked about so that it isnt easy to report.

has everyone here heard of munchausens by internet?

have personaly seen entire disability communities destroyed by this type of fraud.
there are several people famous as authors & activists who claim to have autism who have been proven to be frauds.
