Recovery scam baiting?

A recovery scam landed in my catcher today first time I’ve spotted one.

Is there a different way to bait these lads or just see how it pans out and get him off script:?:

Just my ideas here but if they are trying the recovery angle they are going to be looking for previous victims. My guess would be to start it off as someone who has been scammed before. Do not trust them at first, let them know you do not trust them, and make them earn your trust so they have some invested effort into you. At the same time though let them know that the reason you have these trust issues is because you have been scammed in the past. Also try to show some naivety in all of it so the lad thinks he has an easy mark.

.... just make sure you do not mix up that lad Gomer in your business though or it will all go to hell and quickly.

I go after Recovery lads a lot. An angle I like to use is to tell them I have lost a lot of money (usually tens of thousands) chasing an over invoiced oil contract. This gets them salivating, then I inform them that I don't trust Western Union/Moneygram due to how much I've lost there and will only consider a bank transfer.

Sometimes this works straight away but usually it takes a couple of failed trips to WU/MG before you lay down the ultimatum bank transfer or goodbye. Sometimes they still refuse but they usually come back a couple of days or weeks later and then you can collect yourself a piggy Very Happy

Recovery lads seem to like phoning as well. If you take calls make them go over things over and over to further convince them you are confused and dependent on them for guidance.

Sometimes I like to add a character later on who is trying to protect his friend from being scammed and intervenes and then I hand them their ass over the phone in my best over aggressive cockney wide-boy accent.

Remember to dangle lots of cash and make it sound as if a total of $57,000.00 is walking around money. Your only inconvenience was going to the Western Union office for the money transfers but its all done electronically now.

Don't send any scripts as examples that the lad can use but introduce the person that has scammed you. Forward the lad's warning to your original scammer (yourself) and then back to the lad. Send an email directly from your original scammer box (yourself) to the lad telling him to KEEP OFFFFF OOOO. Introduce BRUIN's WIMP modality in exchange for keeping off your very rich and always drunk manga and work for the safari.

Recovery lads are among the lowest scum in the depths of criminality and anything you can do to make them cry about being stranded and having no money in a foreign and unexpectedly hostile country is a service to the world. Connie's advice is spot on - play the victim, be confused and change allegiance as if you believe one story one day and another the next. Acting like someone at the end of their wits will push all their little buttons and get them properly interested. Good luck Thumbs up

I like to tell the lad that the amount I was scammed out of was about 10% of the "compensation" he offers and my conscience will allow me only to accept what I had lost. This usually gets us into a long discussion on ethics.

Turning down compensation can really confuse Lads.

Lots of great ideas here.

I screw around with these Lads all the time but my tactic ( maybe my old tactic now) uses a greedy person who is simply jumping on the offer. Who cares if they got the wrong guy? I'm going to be be rich! Essentially I play a very unsavoury character who wants to get rich due to mistaken identity.

Hilarity does ensue....
