If I could find a good IBM Selectric I would buy it for occasional use.

WE have older staff members at my office who do not realize that you can address an envelope with a printer.... They want to type them on a typewriter. I want to force the issue by tossing all of them in the dust bin...

Either the staff members or the typewriter.... Doesn't really matter.

I still address envelopes by hand (except for stuff that fits into a window envelope). I kind of know I could use my printer, but trying to work out how to load an envelope, after taking out the paper just seems too time consuming and fiddly. I'm sure it would be second nature for any young person, but then I come from a time when telephones were just for talking into, and attached to your house by a wire.

As a child I used to play with my Grandmother's typewriter, my favourite trick was to press several keys at once, so the arms jammed up against each other, which must have done it no end of good. Smile

I use a Samsung SCF-4521F and it like most multifunction machines has a dedicated envelope feed. The printer along with Office or some program in Word that has excellent database management has made addressing envelopes very easy.

I volunteer for an organization that requires information recorded on archival paper. I have to use a typewriter with correction capabilities. I've finished off my Smith Corona, my Brother disk machine and have resorted to fixing the clutches on IBM Selectric III's. I got a bunch of 96 character balls with the last one.

I still address my envelopes by hand.

Since I do 99 percent of my bills on-line, I only mail things out a few times a year.

And speaking of typewriters--I miss my old Olivetti typewriter I used in the Air Force. I could easily type 120+ words per minute on that baby.

Where I worked, the printer was at the other end of the hall & shared by several people. Trying to print anything other than standard paper size required telling everyone else not to print while you walked back and forth putting the envelope or whatever in, hoping you got it right the first time, etc.

No thanks. This is why they teach penmanship in school.

^^^ Hate to disappoint you however in a number of US states they have decided to not teach penmanship. Just printing letters and using computers.

My question to that bit of insanity is how would one validly "sign" a contract or other legal document? Go back to a thumb or finger print? Or the "X"?

@dwatina. 120 wpm? You were a "fast" one? Wink

^^Thankfully--they still teach penmanship in the schools up here.

And yeah--I was a speedy one so far as typing. I'm still pretty fast, but accuracy is not that great depending upon the computer keyboard.

I've found that I type best on my macally keyboards, so I have one of those at work and one at home. They're probably 10 years old, but I like 'em.

All my posts on 419eater are written on an old typewriter, then I scan the text, run OCR on it, copy-paste et voila!
