I don't know why but it seems impossible to me someone can travel 800 and something mph without being in a machine and survive. Obviously it is. Amazing.

I wonder if his decent was quicker after he filled is britches...

That moment when he nonchalantly (?) steps off the platform and falls away makes me catch my breath every time.

^^Being afraid of heights that almost gave me pains in my chest. Sitting there looking down on the earth..

I wonder what the abort plan was. I read somewhere the pod had a parachute but would it be any better free falling in that tin can I wonder. I guess it's not all dissimilar that the original lunar landing modules. I remember the first time I saw those at NASA in Houston they looked like they were made from recycled beer cans. This stuff reminds me how much of a wuss I am.

Holy sh*t, yeah! 21 years ago, I almost fell off Alpe d'Huez in the French Alps, while I was there skiing. Since then, I've had a problem with ledges and heights - they make me feel anxious (strangely enough, I don't have problems when on a bridge or a plane). And watching Baumgartner standing on the platform gave me that same strange feeling of anxiety.

Yep my fear of heights is from an experience too when I was in my early 20's I was working for a telecom company we were installing laser's on top of skyscrapers to transmit high speed data between buildings. I was mounting the laser to the railing of the building when a gust of wind nearly blew me over. We were supposed to use the safety teather but that was for wussy boys. I braced myself on the rail and looked down 20 something stories. I thought I was having a heart attack afterwards I found out it was just an anxiety attack. Planes do not bother me at all but I can't look down from tall buildings.
