Hi all, love the website and you all have some dedication!

I thought I would tell you of a current scam. I'm an employee of a food company, and someone has bought a domain very similar to ours. They have copied our website like for like, but changed the email address and phone number.

Now this chap is placing huge, and I mean huge, orders for food goods and getting them delivered to a self storage yard. The chap is pretending to be the company owner (although sounds African, whereas the owner [my boss] is definitely English), and suppliers are doing credit checks - which come back fine - but delivering to these other addresses.

Now, I have email addresses and phone numbers (mobile, fax and landline). How can I waste his time and generally piss him off? Would he be interested in debt consolidation loan phone calls?

I don't want to say the company website, so google doesn't link it, but do you have any ideas?

Post the website in the Fake Bank forum which is behind a login.

Set to need help and the site killers will come running. If your goal

is too not kill it, then post Help Hint and tips. It is also behind a log-in

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I need to do a little reading around first. Although the objective would be to get the website killed -without hurting our company reputation (we're only a small company). How do they do that?

The site killers can contact the scammer's host and have it closed.
You may also want to add a warning on the main page of your website to alert your customers that scammers have been impersonating you.

You could also post the scam on scamwarners with all the scammer details, to warn others of this, so nobody else gets scammed.

The hosting company doesn't care in the slightest.

Our site killers are very good at killing them. When you are ready...you will see how fast it can be closed. Wink

^^Then try the nameserver and the registrar. Always report to all three. I have a few sites I have to report to the hosters of the nameservers!, because the nameservers have no mail servers and are being run by the scammers.

Also we have a few people with authority to enter sites into the well-respected fake site database. Some registrars kill a site as soon as they see it in the database.

Surely, if this is all going on in England, it could be handled by the police? I'm thinking that criminal offences have been committed here (they will certainly come to light when the suppliers invoice your boss), specifically that of obtaining services dishonestly - Section 11 of the Fraud Act 2006. I would leave the website up as evidence and go straight to the police on this one. Your employer, and certainly your suppliers will thank you for it. I suggest talk to your employer and then get the cavalry in.

Hi, yes this has all been reported through Action Fraud and we have a crime reference number. The police did get involved to seize goods that were already delivered (thankfully).

However I don't see them doing much else in closing the fraudulent website down (others here are helping with this) and/or blocking the UK phone numbers that he is using. But then again, would the police tell us this?

All we can do is try to prevent any more fraud with a notice on our website and on twitter, and of course notify anyone who sends an invoice to us.

I'll keep you all informed with what happens.

Excellent, it's all being handled then. No harm in sending it through Eater's fake sites section, with a crime reference number from the British authorities the evidence is pretty damning and a kill is pretty much assured, I'd think.
