I think there is a different thread for recipes. SOOI, I thought fish was high in protein. Must look it up. When I have the strength.

Nope, I looked it up. Fish is below Chicken which is below Beef.
Quote:
#3: Lean Veal and Beef
To get the most protein out of meat, it is best to choose lean cuts. Specifically the top round of veal or beef provides around 36 grams of protein per 100 gram serving, or 93 grams per pound (uncooked), and 31 grams in a 3 ounce serving.

#4: Roasted Pumpkin, Squash, and Watermelon Seeds
A popular food in the Middle East and East Asia pumpkin and squash seeds provide 33 grams of protein per 100g serving, that is 74.8 grams per cup and 9.2 grams per ounce. Watermelon seeds provide slightly less at 28 grams of protein per 100 gram serving. If you can't find these seeds in your local supermarket you will surely find them in Middle Eastern or East Asian specialty stores. Alternatively, you can also save any pumpkin, squash, and watermelon seeds you have and roast them in your oven. The seeds are typically consumed by cracking the outer shell and eating the seed inside.

#5: Lean Meats (Chicken, Lamb, Pork, Turkey)
Most lean meats provide around 30 grams of protein (30%) in a 100 gram serving. Chicken broilers have the most with 32.8 grams of protein per 100 gram serving, which is 46 grams per cup, and 27 grams in half a chicken breast. Pork loin and chops have 30 grams per 100 gram serving or 19.2 grams of protein per chop.

#6: Fish (Tuna, Anchovies, Salmon)
Fish are becoming more popular as knowledge spreads on the value of their fats and oils. As for protein Yellowfin Tuna provides the most with 30 grams per 100 gram serving, or about 8 grams per ounce. It is followed by Anchovies(29g), Salmon(27g), Halibut(27g), Snapper(26g), and Tilapia(26g).
Click to see complete nutrition facts.

#7: Fish Eggs (Roe and Caviar)
Caviar and fish eggs are most often eaten as a garnish or spread. A sampling of fish roe (eggs) from a variety of species found they provide 28.6 grams of protein in a 100 gram serving. That is 8 grams of protein per ounce. Caviar will provide 24 grams of protein in a 100 gram serving or 6.9 grams per ounce. Chicken eggs, by comparison, only offer 13.6 grams of protein in a 100 gram serving, or 6.3 grams of protein per egg.

#8: Yeast Extract Spread (aka: Marmite)
Yeast extract spreads are popular in Britain and Europe, and have started to gain popularity in the U.S. A good vegan source of vitamin B12, the spread also packs a lot of protein. One hundred grams provides 27.8 grams of protein, that is 1.7 grams per teaspoon.

I didn't see beaver on the list. Confused

"What" did you ask is number uno...
Quote:
#1: Cheese
Of all cheeses low sodium Parmesan cheese provides the most protein with 41.6 grams per 100 gram serving. It is followed by regular whole Parmesan at 35.8 grams of protein per 100 grams. That is 10 grams of protein per ounce, and 3.6 grams per cubic inch. Other cheeses like Romano, Mozzarella, and Swiss provide around 28-30 grams of protein per 100 gram serving. Softer cream cheeses, or spreadable cheeses, provide the least protein with only 16 grams per 100 gram serving.

Ostrich is good stuff.
Venison too.

Chicken is sissy food.

Rump is under-rated.

I am telling you that, indeed.

Also not a bit fan of hummus...much to the disappointment of my Arabic instructors in Monterey.....although, I did like the lamb that was always served on our class picnics Very Happy

^ I do think Arabic cuisine is the only one that really knows what to do with lamb - they have a good use of herbs and spices that counteract and cut through the greasiness. Much better than the Western 'roast it till it's dry then cover it with gravy' approach.

But veggie's still best. Razz

So... (attempting to get back on topic) no chicken on those class picnics?

I agree about the lamb - it is just icky when prepared by anybody else.

I do like vegetables - broccoli, peas, cabbage, pretty much anything green but brussel sprouts or cooked spinach...I just happen to be more of a carnivore Wink

Nope, no chicken on the picnics....my instructors may have thought chicken was for sissies. Laughing

Many cultures make fine lamb (Greeks, Scots etc..). Sadly, many North Americans will never come to apprecitate it. My favourite meal is traditional Icelandic Lamb soup. Yeah it has lots of vegetables in it for the 'NutsnBerries' types but Dang it is what life should be about (Aboot?)

I know I will be hit with all kinds of uh y'know 'Commentary' on this but Beaver is quite palatable. Honestly I have only eaten the haunches but it is superior to many other so-called meats. Most of you will have to trust me I suppose.

On another note, there is a Pub in York called "The Golden Fleece" that serves roast beef in a bowl made of Yorkshire Pudding! Yes you heard me!!! A Bowl of Yorkshire Pudding!!!! I could go on but I gotta book a flight....

Cougar your pulling my leg
There was a no good way to make lamb. Don't like it even fresh off the hoof. It has such a weird aftertaste. Not as bad as liver though. Cooking liver is a shooting offense. Well it should be! Twisted Evil
@ oscarpiles
Groundhog stew is pretty good too.

Gotta love that spinach though!
OK going back into hiding now.

Normal practice round here. One of our local supermarkets stocks them like that. Basically it's a big Yorkshire Pudding, filled with the meat, potatoes and gravy.

@Basts - didn't mind liver, but kidneys? Ugh! Tried to prepare them once for someone else's dinner. Gave up - horrid things, like little slimy snot bags.

Spinach - meh, can take it or leave it. Best when served as a salad mixed with watercross and rocket. Nice and peppery. Smile

@basts child. I have never tried Groundhog though I'll put it on the agenda. I can always tell the honored guests that it's uh yeh I'll work on that.

@Cougar. If I hadda known that (about Yorkshire and the rest) I wouldn't be living in Canada right now. Dang I have all the paperwork filled out to live/work there too. Oh well.

Somewhere I have a recipe for Baked Skunk. It starts with drowning the wee weasel so that the stench washes away...I kid you not.

Lamb bourek, mmmmmmm.
You can buy those giant Yorkshire puds in morrisons. Fill with rabbit, peas and tomatoes, lovely. Or stew, peas and mashed potato.

Giant Yorkies are very scrummy (even with chicken stew filling)

Don't forget Lancashire Hotpot with mutton (no chicken though).

Well anything with curry has my vote!
@ Cougar
you are braver then me! I wouldn't even think of trying to cook kidney.
A couple of new friends went hunting once and awarded with me with a fresh deer heart. Well it was a big deal to them so I took the ceremonial bite and it still ranks above liver!
