It's a big story so I'll cut it short for you. She emailed me from a dating website (which are great collection centers for scammers) and now she's on her way to Sydney to meet her one true love (meeeeee!), but she got stuck in some hotel en-route so she issues a sad 'stuck-traveler story' accompanied by the usual sob stuff and wants US$800 sent via Western Union.

I think I'd like to mess with her little Nigerian brain and send her a WU number and a promised $ amount.

One problem is that I've forgotten the typical number series of WU numbers, any clues people?

where are you? I've got myself here in a big mess in the hotel i stay here because I'm unable to pay for the two weeks i overstayed.. Now,the hotel management has seized my passport with my traveling document from me now when i wanted to checkout to leave for airport... what can i do now?and all the money i have left here in my purse is only 300usd and it's 1100usd i need to balance up i have also contacted my embassy to explain the situation to them but they are playing on me....they hangup on me when i asked them to give me loan..oh my God..I'm afraid now because i don't want my ticket to expired here and i don't know how to get out of this yet...Please dear i need you to help me in any way you can...if you can loan me i will refund the money to you when i return..sorry that i ask you...i have tried all my effort here looking for a solution but all to no avail...i have even tried if i could contact my best friend but i have lost her contact after she relocated from the country with her boyfriend Please dear..help me do your best to help me out before i would loose my return ticket..And my ticket will be terminated if i don't fly latest on tomorrow...i am getting worried of the whole situation here..

i really wish i could help myself out now but i have nobody i could contact for help..Moreover,my inherited fund i came here to get hasn't yet been released to me until the probate confirm the approval and the time cannot be predicted..But,now that i want to return back home to continue with my business and wait for the approval of the fund,the hotel has seized my passport..dear,please help me do your best to help me out of this mess so i can come home ...i promise to reimburse the money back to you when i come home..dear,the hotel has throw me out of the room..now I'm sitting helplessly in a cyber cafe opposite the hotel while sending you this email..

please,help me ..i don't want to be stuck here..i don't live here..I'm afraid..please help me you're all the only resort i have...i have asked some people here in this cafe the easiest/fastest way i can receive money here in Nigeria if you send and they told me it can work through Western union that i will only need to receive the money with an ID card...and luckily for me..i have my business ID card here with me...

WU MTCN numbers have 9 digits, well known fact that.
Moneygram have 7 or 9, probably. MG is better as the lad has to actually go to the collection point to find out there is nothing to collect.
Don't forget that the Q&A isn't needed as the lad will have his id with him. (Unless that was stolen)

If "she" hasn't said which city, she has to tell you. Simply "Nigeria" ain't enough.

Western Union staff told you that sending money to Nigeria is a bad idea, and laughed at you when you tried to explain.

Moneygram proved far more understanding. You've sent $1000 to the hotel manager, Mr G0mer, who emailed you personally to explain the situation.

Thanks for the advice lads I'll tell her that in Australia WU will not send money to Nigeria now unless the sender is known to them (and of course I will not be known to them) so I'll tell her that MG is the only choice and I'm sorry, will that be OK? etc., etc.

I'll post here if anything interesting happens like a long disappointing trek!

Tell the lad that it's Australian law that before money can be transferred by wire transfer to Nigeria, that certain security forms have to be filled out.

There's a whole bunch of fake WU and MG security forms here to choose from, some of them several pages.

He must of course, print them out, fill them in in whatever colour ink you deem appropriate, scan them and then send them back as e-mail attachments.

I'm sure the lad will have lots of fun doing all that. Smile

I managed to get her to go to a Moneygram office, but only once. She got really nasty about the absence of money. So after a bunch more emails exchanged she went away.
