Real life people.....

So I've been baiting for a while.

I've told some friends and relatives that I do this.

So far I've ratted out two potential online boyfriends for my ex-wife.

Been given an actual mailed letter from a scammer to a friend & co-worker. (Bait-in-progress)

And have told another friend that their ex-husband is about to be check-scammed (Ok, Money Order) if she can't wake him up.

Have other baiters had similar experiences?

Have told a some co-workers.

One received $5,000+ check for a mystery shopper job, asked me first before depositing it.

Several others have received odd enquires about items they were selling on craigslist and all were happy that I confirmed their suspicions before giving the "buyer" their home address for the "check to be mailed to".

Others have asked about FedEx emails, Yahoo lotteries and nice cars for sale on Craigslist.

Short answer yes.

Originally I wandered in here as a curious Fellah who was looking for some information on the Grandparents Scam. Afterwards, as I got kinda hooked and told others of what I was doing, a couple of friends approached me regarding other scams.

I have spent many hours looking into/reporting/Fucking with many sorts of scumbags although most of them are not in the scope of this particular Forum.
Truthfully it makes me feel good that others are comfortable enough to approach me regarding possible scams.

A few weeks ago, the Martial Arts school where I teach/train received a scam e-mail. The lad claimed to have ten clients traveling to the USA who wanted to train at our school, and wanted to arrange payment in advance.
Of course, our general manager, who had no idea about this sort of fraud, had actually started correspondence with this lad.
As soon as I found out about it, I told him to put on the brakes, and give me a few days to check it out.
So I set up an imaginary Martial Arts school and baited the lad; I told him it would cost $2500 per month for ten students. Within a few days, he had sent me credit card info, and asked me to charge $7500 for the first month, and send the extra $5000 to his booking agent for their expenses.... yada yada yada
When I showed the e-mails to our general manager, he was flabbergasted!

A work colleague was about to fall for a house rental scam, but I managed to alert him in time. Cool

My aunt got some scam emails and asked if I was interested. I asked her to send them with headers. She didn't know how to see headers, and she uses a Mac and Gmail, which I don't, so I wouldn't know how to explain it to her. I sent her the link, and she figured it out after a few tries and sent me the emails with headers. I posted them here and at Scamwarners.

I got started doing this when my supervisor's stories about her new online boyfriend began to sound a little strange. She even took a week of vacation to meet and spend time with this lad who, of course, never showed up because he got detained in Ghana over payment for his services. She had already gone to the bank to set up an account for him. You know the story. Since then have come across several family members, coworkers, friends getting scam communication, especially on Facebook now.

Two friends of mine were love scammed.

I was able to convince the first one from the beginning that it was a scam.

The other one payed for visa and was very embarassed when he found out he lost his money. Fortunately, he took my advise and stopped further communication.

A friend of mine was contacted by a scammer based on something he tried to sell online.

1) He was smart enough to google it and found out it was a scam.
2) I told him about this website and now he wants to sign up and get a mentor!

I did tell him to be careful as it's addictive.

I've been doing this every day since December and I'm not addicted. LOL.

(Ok, I went on a 4 day cruise back in February.)

I was just talking to a customer the other day (I'm a bartender), and he was telling me that he was exchanging emails with this REALLY cute young girl he met on Craigslist..... her name was Sara.

I asked him "Sara R1ley?"
He said yes, how did I know? I told him that "Sara" is really somebody from Russia, or at least that's what the headers told me. I even knew exactly what his emails said.
I told him about this site, and he said he'll be joining up soon.

I've had a few other situations like that happen before, being a bartender, there's always plenty of time to chat with different people.
