Many scammers use the names of public figures and celebreties, well known and not so well known. We get scam emails from lads claiming to be heads of state (including the POTUS), Director of the FBI Robert Mueller, members of Congress, deposed dictators as well as their wives/widows/children/hangers-on.

In the last two entries in my signature line below are names of real people used by lads running lottery scams. Dr. Leo Stan Ekeh is the CEO of a large IT firm in Nigeria. Peter Clack was the drummer for AC/DC for a while back in the '80s.

Surprising to me as their gmail/hotmail/rocketmail email addresses lend themselves to nothing that would lead me to believe they are actually being forthright. I dunno... Anyway, don't want to speculate regarding the people that actually fall for these sort of things but I really hope that after going thru a con like the ones I have read about that they smarten up a bit. It's a big bad world out there and a lot of people on the internet do not deserve to be taken at face value.

LOL! I'm just shocked that the whole "you had me at Nigeria" line can actually still work in this day and age! What turnip truck is making its rounds and are they recirculating the air with laughing gas cuz they must be! For reals!!! *giggle!!!*

It doesnt look like they use the myspace page, but to be fair no one uses myspace anymore since it changed to a music site. From what i recall when i used to have a myspace i think getting false accounts nuked is fairly simple, well it used to be....... Rolling Eyes

You could shut it down just like you could shut down other dating profiles..... and then the scammer could start up another one in 10 minutes. To be honest publishing on google and flooding with baiter traffic to keep him occupied might be more beneficial.

It is better to have a target in the sights than out of it. Maybe my fighting doctrine is different here though.

Yep. Agreed! I was pretty well known on MySpace back in the day and even I, an old-school heavy supporter, have pretty much forgotten about its existence even though I used to have one of the most popular profiles on the site. Worst case scenario I can talk to Tom i guess and try to get her removed (again) but it seems to me this would not be the first time I've reported this person and they kinda don't care unless someone is actually stealing my pics.

I'm open to ideas as to what to do to this waste of skin and oxygen. Whatever you think is best.

^^^I'm from the generation who remembers watching the American Football League so your name did not ring a bell with me. But I ran it past my son who is in his mid-20s and it registered with him.

My opinion for what it is worth is leave it up. You asked scambaiters to target the scammers impersonating you so leave the targets up long enough to get a few baiters sighted in and firing on the scammers.

In the mean time do feel free to expose the scammers fake profiles of you on 419eater.com and maybe a few other websites as well:

I realize one of those sites is under construction so it may be impossible to update it. You might want to consider putting something like a scam alert in the website's design itself.

Regardless, posting on your official channels could serve as the official nod off to the potential victims of these scams that the fake profiles are not you. It also cannot hurt to have more warnings up for google to pick up. The more warnings the better.

I think that you could facebook and LinkedIn to close or give you control of those accounts. Contact them and find out how to get them to do it. If they have your picture or other of your info it should not be to difficult. Otherwise you probably will need to provide proof they are criminals.
