Neil Armstrong spent most of his life in SW Ohio so I am following this as a local story.
He always kept a very low profile -- played golf at public courses, worked out at a YMCA, and would visit the US Air Force Museum in Dayton as a regular visitor, mingling and chatting with the tourists, often undetected.
RIP, Neil. Thanks for taking that step. |

What a truly brave man, and brilliant pilot. If you've never read about his aviation exploits prior to his becoming an astronaut, you should. He had incredible experiences, including many life-threatening ones, as a Navy pilot in the Korean war and a test pilot in subsequent years. That he continued to fly in experimental aircraft under incredibly dangerous conditions shows just how truly fearless he was. And yet, for all his amazing experiences, he was modest to a fault. A true gentleman of the old school.
A sad day indeed. |
