Any tips on handling badgers when encountered? Do others here come across them very often? I do ignore emails, but sometimes I come across one who decides to make a production of it and involve as many others as possible. Very annoying. They are just as bad as the scammers, if not worse.

On a dating site, getting from 1 to 5 emails a day from a particular profile. Profile now hidden, although I can still email it. Profile tells me how smart they are and know all about scammers and baiting and how stupid I am, ad nauseum. Then began getting emails from various (obvious) scammer-type profiles (I am not saying they are scammers, but scammer-type, although that isn't ruled out) with taunting messages, such as references to how much money they make, etc blah blah, and which refer to the profile I am calling the Badger, so they are either the same person or at least know each other. The person sending these appears to be English-speaking, although I am not claiming proof of this, and did recognize a somewhat obscure American culture reference. Not that I would react any differently, but this profile has stated they are setting up 50 new profiles to scam with and will be sending emails, on and on. Just tired of the pesky moron. Ignoring works for a while, then it starts over.

That's not a badger if they come out and admit to knowing about scamming and baiting. I am not clear why they are taunting you -- if it's because they've figured out you are a baiter, then it just sounds like a very conceited scammer.

This is the definition of a "badger" at Eater.

Were you just using the word to refer to someone who is very annoying to baiters?

I doubt what you have is a badger. In fact those are rare I have never ran across one. More than likely they are a bad baiter(really should not even call them that). They think your profile is a lads and instead of baiting you they are just insulting or calling you out.

I'd just ignore them.

Forgot to mention, one thing that makes me wonder if this person(s) is part of the scamming game is one of the profiles emails death threats, statements about stalking, and has even posted it on their profile saying they are going to enact vengeance.....high drama movie script. Crazy stuff.

I think I will settle on "Crazy Ass Person" and be done with it. I misused the word Badger. Crazy Ass Person will do nicely.

I have come across a couple of those crazies so far. One decided to pester my gay profile, the other went after my female with a vengeance from several different profiles of his own.

I got no death threats but I did get several stupid IMs telling me I am not from my characters location and I should give him my phone number and meet him for a date.

Thanks to all. I haven't ever come across an actual badger before, but since this one did email me as a "real" person (female) who was friendly and talking about normal US culture kind of stuff, but who then revealed themself later, I initially stuck them in that category. It wasn't for very long; guess they couldn't contain themself. Ignoring I am doing, so hopefully they'll tire of making threats and go away.

Just replace that with the synonym 'Troll', report it and then be done with it.

Trolls far outnumber swtiched-on lads or badgers....I would say at least 2014 to 1 for the former and 9 to 20th power for the latter*

*not a scientific study, just random numbers thrown out there.
