Educate your local community. I've finally managed to get my local newspaper to publish a series about scams, starting in September, shamelessly borrowing from the resources at Scamwarners.

As well as the workshops I run through the year with Senior Net.

^^^ I have one librarian who is resistant to a presentation on the topic.....still working on it.

my family is sick of me telling them about internet scams

the problem is that most people think all scams are like "I am a nigerian prince who needs to get money out of my country" or "you won the lottery!", they don't realize scammers can be much more subtle

I have business cards made up (for FREE even) showing 419Eater and ScamWarner's website information and also the email addy I use for reporting .edu's etc. and hand them out to people when the topics of fraud or scamming come up.

The "boat launch" folks at the end of our street at the River's edge all know about my baiting and are willing to help set up photos to send to lads, i.e. the money jar collecting funds for Adopt My Baby bait and they are always asking me about the latest prank calls we have made. So there are about 30 people who eventually tell one or 2 other friends and I get calls and emails from people wanting to know if something is a scam.

So we can be educators in small ways when an opportunity presents itself.
